The Quiet Sleep

The Quiet Sleep is an unusual beast of a game with a fairly unique concept. You're in your own mind and must construct a functioning city/production line to defend yourself and motivate yourself. It's best considered a hybrid factory game, RTS, city builder, puzzle game and tower defense. And there's no reason to say such a game couldn't work, it has a fascinating and not unworkable concept. The problem here is that the delivery is obtuse and flat. Before getting into technical defects, the game itself is extremely complex, and likely to induce a migraine before you get past the tutorial. Complexity in games is welcomed, but it must be presented in an accessible and consumable manner, and it just isn't done so here. One quick note is that while the game is slapped together with a bunch of free/stock game assets, the developers have done the right thing by correctly crediting those sources and licenses. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A single playthrough of The Quiet Sleep years ago was enough to cement it in my mind as a powerful metaphor for human thought processes. I guess I can't say if it will resonate with everyone, but this is one of very, very few games that describe a system through playable mechanics in a way I can't put words to. It resonates deeply with my own desire to analyze and systemically understand the world. I also enjoy the game; it's compelling enough and challenging and interesting; but it's not the joy of gameplay that brings me back to The Quiet Sleep, it's the way that through playing it and engaging with the gameplay brings me in tune to some indescribable perspective that I already recognize within myself. I feel seen.

An interesting game. It is kind of a puzzle, but with some interesting 'choices' to make. I enjoy the whole aspect of 'maintaining your emotional' balance interesting. Emotions are both threats and resources to your mind, which is a really compelling way to work it. The music really helps set the mood. Game managed to keep me up through a night wanting to see what would happen next.

Sorry, but that was a miss for me. Way too linear and didn't really tell much of an interesting story. Whatever The Quiet Sleep does, Cultist Simulator does a lot better imo.

This is a very interesting game. I've enjoyed many things about it but I honestly couldn't recommend someone else buying it. Pros - The core game mecanics of emotion tower defence is fun - Creating ressource "loops" is enjoyable Cons - Game pauses constantly, forcing you to manually unpause it every time - Absolutly no freaking idea what to do most of the time, game is more like a puzzle than a tower defence - The 3 different scenarios are WILDLY different and I found only the first one to be trully fun, the other two are way too chaotic or way too confusing in the options offered
