y'know I've wanted something like this for a while now. A lovecraftian horror VR game. If the game ran well, and the VR controls weren't janky as hell, Then I could see this working real well. Like... if it was built in source 2 or something, now thats a game I'd pay good money for.

Impressions of the game are mixed. On the one hand, there's simply no other Lovecraftian VR game with such a superbly designed graphic and gameplay experience; the desire to complete it is overwhelming. On the other hand, it's incredibly annoying to the core with its glitches – it seems the developer did everything to make the game impossible to complete (or rather, didn't do anything to make it possible). Jumping and especially crouching are sorely lacking – picking up objects from the floor (like lore notes) is impossible. Although I use third-party software to add this feature, it adds its own set of glitches to the gameplay. A seated mode is, of course, out of the options – you have to constantly run around as a dwarf with the camera at waist level. Oddly enough, this doesn't make it any easier for the player to pick up objects from the floor (but it does prevent them from picking up items that are high up – at potential head level for a standing player) - a fantastic combination of opposing flaws. The joystick deadzone calibration is also (not) implemented in a terrible way - the character is constantly running forward, which forcing the player to constantly pull back wit…

The Shore is a good game. The Shore as a VR title, is less so. I ran into several bugs throughout the experience that really made it a struggle to play.

Even on two different PCs, I get to the menu and it will not let me actually start the game. Nothing is interactive for me on the menu. Maybe it just doesn't like Valve Index? I have no idea. I just know that I can't give it a review other than it wasn't worth it. The only reason I didn't refund is I thought it might work when I built my new PC. Had I known nothing would change, this game would've been refunded immediately.

The Shore VR is an alternate iteration of the original game, The Shore. This immersive experience delves into the enigma of the unknown, set on a forbidden island teeming with a terrifying realm of cultists and cosmic terrors. Drawing inspiration from the literary works of H. P. Lovecraft, the narrative incorporates many of his most iconic creations and beyond. However, the VR version suffers from significant technical issues, making it frustrating to play due to its unreliable performance. It is advisable to opt for the standard flatscreen version to avoid unnecessary expenses and complications.
