The Shore

The Shore is a Lovecraftian first person walking sim and shooter. You will encounter mysterious creatures and unravel the secrets behind them. Strong elements of horror, struggle to survive an unknown world that will make you question your own sanity. Despite the rough state, I didn't get stuck anywhere or encountered any serious showstopping bugs. Played this on my Dell Precision 3480 with Arc Xe graphics and RTX A500 discrete graphics. Game is very playable.

Okay game. First half is great, second half with the diving suit and artifact not so much. No technical issues. Not much to do, interacte with some items and some shooting with the artifact. Takes about 2hrs to complete. I recommend it but not for full price.

The first half of the game was easily the strongest part for me. It barely needed to do anything to make me uncomfortable. The atmosphere, the environments and just walking around trying to figure out what was going on were creepy enough on their own. I really enjoyed that part. Unfortunately, it started to lose me later on. If you’re going for this kind of slow, atmospheric walking-simulator style of horror, I honestly think you’re better off sticking to that. Once the game starts introducing more action, it just doesn’t feel nearly as strong as the exploration and atmosphere that came before it. I also wasn’t a huge fan of how Cthulhu was portrayed here. Hard to explain without getting into spoilers, but it just didn’t really work for me. That being said, I still think it’s worth experiencing if you can get it cheap. The environments are great and the first half especially has some genuinely creepy moments. I just wish it had trusted its atmosphere all the way through instead of trying to become something else. Recommended on sale.

Visually stunning in some areas. The character seems somewhat lacking in commenting on what is happening around them. Sometimes he exclaims robustly other times dead silence. Had to give up in the area where Shagtanagotha appears. I can see where my character has to go but getting hit multiple times ends my character, granted the creature can be stunned but its about a second of stun and my 70 year old reflexes can't keep up with that. Otherwise its worth purchasing for the graphical style.

Just terrible. The only good thing about this game are the visuals. The graphics, the scale, the style - it all looks good and done with effort. Everything else is just terrible. The game design is a mess. You start it as a badly written narrative walking sim. Then it turns to puzzles, and then to survival shooter. And all that goes from 0 to 100 in a second, with completely abandoning mechanics afterwards. The game is made by artists and you can really see that - visually the game is good. But the dev team completely abandoned the narrative, game design, writing, the plot, and game mechanics. Instead of spending your money on it, better watch a YouTube walkthrough. This would be a much more pleasant experience.

One of the best Mythos games I've ever played... The Shore is easily one of the most visually stunning Lovecraftian experiences I have ever played. Ares Dragonis has crafted a world that feels genuinely oppressive, terrifying, and awe-inspiring all at once. The scale of the cosmic entities and the haunting atmospheric sound design capture true cosmic horror like few games manage to do. Standing on that desolate beach and looking up at monumental Eldritch horrors left me truly immersed. If you are a fan of Cthulhu Mythos or atmospheric indie horror, this is a non-negotiable must-play!
