About Dark Shores
An experimental horror game with perma-death, branching narratives, and dynamically adapting terror. A new game from LABS, a one-man studio.
Explore and survive on the Dark Shores, a survival horror game that explores concepts of perma-death, branching storylines, and unscripted horror.
A luxury cruise containing five young tourists crashes on a remote island, deep within the South Pacific. As the tourists struggle to survive on the island, they soon realize that keeping themselves fed and sheltered is the least of their worries. There’s something else on this island. Hunting them.

Key Features
Permanent Death
In most games, when the player dies, they would respawn at a checkpoint. This however makes death less meaningful, as the player knows that if they get caught, they can just start again. This essentially means that any scary moments lose their appeal instantly. But in Dark Shores, the severe consequences elevate the tension.
Branching Narrative
When the player dies as one character, the story continues as another. This makes for a branching storyline, where the outcome is entirely dependent on who lives, and who dies.
Unscripted Fear
LABS focused on an un-scripted hunter in an attempt to create fear that isn’t linear. Once the player becomes aware of the scripted nature planned jump scares, the metaphorical curtain is pulled back, and horror games can lose their impact. To avoid being just a simple haunted house, a level of unpredictability has been added.

A slenderman style game. To address the invisible walls that people complain about. The game does walk you through objectives and tells you what needs to be done to advance. Not a bad feature as it explains that you need to have enough food for your survivors and gives you your quest objectives. Simple graphics, I would like to note that they are real life accurate. The palm trees with coconuts look like they would in real life. This is not a terrible game, and it does have a tense, stressful feel to it. This does not seem like it should be on sale yet, great premise, I like that your survivors get picked off one by one, but still a long way to go. At this point it almost seems cheesy. Howdy Doody Everyboody! This game made me really paranoid that the screaming masked killer is always behind me. I eventually found a way to hide from him which was in an inescapable hole... http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=8507714112 found this helpful
Recipe for disaster. I like how they whistling at their own game... just watch the trailer.
I wanted to like this game because it appeared to be like an episode of Lost on a very low budget. They also included permadeath to your crew so not everyone will come out alive as you escape the island. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of meat to it. Finding food at the beginning nearly killed the enjoyment for me. I spent an extremely long amount of time trying to find food and I didn't want to sleep too much and let days pass so plants could grow again because I thought I may run out of time and get a bad ending. Gathering food is just a time sink (like other things in the game) to pad your gameplay. Once I got past that it became enjoyable again. After this though I ran into a bad bug as when you arrive at the bunker and appear to walk back to camp you fall in a landslide which caused my game to crash. I ended up under the water of a pool of blood or something with a lot of plants floating around me. It was pretty wild looking floating around and I had to unclip from 3 different areas before I got back to normal ground. When I was finally safe to go back to camp the baddie got me and permadeath for my character. Since I encountered this bug and I didn't want to lose …
Just does not start crashes with report as i start game.......
