About The Stairway
Built as a 3D platformer, The Stairway invites you to ascend through a floating world that feels both strange and familiar. Puzzling paths twist around impossible architecture; distant structures drift like memories on the horizon. Each surface is shaded as if by hand, blurring the line between dream and drawing. There are no enemies or dialogue. It's just you and yourself, and the climb which you endure. For you, The Stairway could mean parkouring with precision through challenging and exciting obstacles. It could also mean something deeper. That's for you to find out.
Atmosphere
- Unique graphics and atmosphere
- Shading resembling a colored pencil drawing, like the memories from childhood
Story
- Indirect storytelling
- Meaning unfolds through the climb itself
- Large objects in the distance...a hidden meaning
Gameplay
- Multiple checkpoints, quiet moments of rests. No need to stress :)
- Gameplay is easily paused at any point to be resumed later
- Choose whether you play casually or competitively through your own pace
- Speedrun for the fastest time

✦ AI summary
Players are divided on this indie 3D platformer, with most criticizing its minimal effort asset use and ugly visual filters as the sole point of interest, alongside poorly implemented platforming mechanics that don't justify its Steam presence. Some find the odd art style and difficulty tolerable or even enjoyable once adjusted to, though most note it lacks polish and would benefit from controller support and better level design.

"The Stairway" is an exercise in just how ugly the filters on a minimum effort Unity kitbash can get. And the answer is, pretty bad. But yes, I'm afraid to say the sole point of interest in this amateur shovelware is the ugly "pencil drawing" filters slathered all over stock/placeholder Unity assets and not much else going on. What do you do in the game? It's a 3D platformer, and a bad one. You can do some rather poorly done 3D platforming here on the minimalist environments, but really the focus is just on the graphics filter. Boggles the mind that anyone would think something like this should go on the same platform as GTA:V, Baldur's Gate 3 and Death Stranding, but here we are. The "game" here is of a pretty low technical standard. The implementation is basic minimum effort stuff, more like a weekend project rather than a serious, professionally made product... and it's bad even compared to most amateur made games. An experimental piece... and the experiment is "Can I spend $100 on Steam Direct and then call myself a game dev?" While that $100 spend on Steam Direct probably made the developers feel good about themselves, we have to ask why this kind of thing is good fo…
ehh some of the jumps and puzzles arnt great but it's still aight.
Perspective was a bit strange with the art style but it worked OK after turning down my mouse sensitivity and using it to look around. This game would have benefited greatly from controller support.
