✦ AI summary

Wake up in a mysterious locked house and piece together cryptic clues from a haunted phone to uncover a dark past before something sinister finds you. This short horror experience blends atmospheric puzzle-solving with an unsettling story told through audio tapes and journal entries that gradually reveal what's hunting you.

"Look for the channel numbers. Unlock it quickly, she's watching you. Don't leave the static on for too long, it makes her ears bleed. Right now she's upstairs waiting for you." - Anonymous

I really wanted to like The Survey, but it just falls flat. The first half was really great. The survey mechanic on the phone was genuinely interesting and built up the tension so well that I actually got goosebumps. Sadly, the second half throws everything that made the first half work out the window by almost completely abandoning that mechanic, even though the game is literally named after it. Instead, it devolves into walking around and hoping to trigger the next sequence. I do have to give credit to the hint mechanic, though. Even though I never had to use it, I think it's a really unique and thoughtful idea to help players who might get stuck. It probably wasn't a bad idea either, because the game is quite buggy. I had multiple crashes, and several jumpscares completely broke during my playthrough, which sadly hurt the atmosphere quite a bit. The story also wasn't all that engaging. It's close because I can definitely see why some people would enjoy it, but sadly it just lost me along the way. I can't really recommend it, even though I think others might have a better experience than I did.

Had no idea when playing this was 10 years old. Not the worst indie horror game I've ever played. The story is interesting, but not very good. The worst aspect of this is the constant stretches of time where you are stuck listening to poorly delivered voiceover, or waiting to stumble upon a letter that has magically appeared in a corner somewhere. Just not enough worth it here to recommend.

Make no mistake, this IS a walking simulator but that walk is a horrific, tense journey. As you go about this journey your cellphone constantly interacts with you asking questions and taunting you as you go along. A short, tense little romp.

Pretty decent game in my opinion it has a good story and decent graphics for an indie game the only problem I had is when I tried to solve a puzzle and even though I did it right, the game wouldn't progress but besides that, it's decent, it may be a good purchase if you buy it on sale
