About God's Basement

Description

God's Basement is a first-person, narrative-driven, single player horror game. The deeper you explore, the more you remember about your past life, along with the horrors associated with it. Discover the secret to God's Basement and what kind of individuals are sentenced here. Fight the fear seeping into your mind as the horrors of the past come alive through the world around you.

Story

You wake up in a normal, almost monotonous office room, hearing the faint sound of a phone ringing in the next room. The caller is an entity that introduces himself as The Operator, and gives you a set of instructions to follow. The documents around the room imply that you are in the afterlife, a specific version of the afterlife called God's Basement. The Operator keeps instructing you to go deeper and explore the depths of God's Basement, while simultaneously revealing the details of your past life, along with the horrors associated with it.

Features

- A strong focus on atmospheric tension
- Two main environments, a modern office area and a house
- Includes puzzles and riddles with varying difficulty
- Primarily a "Walking-Simulator"
- Emphasizes the unfolding of a story rather than fast paced action-oriented gameplay
- Provides an intense psychological horror experience

Gameplay

God's Basement doesn't have any complicated mechanics. The game doesn't involve any survival, retaliation or "hide and seek" style gameplay. Atmospheric horror elements are emphasized, along with creepy and borderline disturbing imagery. Most of the events in the game are scripted and straightforward although there are puzzles and riddles to be found. This game follows more of a "Walking-Simulator" style of gameplay than an action oriented one. If you're looking for a fast-paced, action-packed survival horror experience, this game probably won't satisfy that need. If you're looking for a slower-paced, narrative-driven experience that puts a strong emphasis on fear, give this game a try.

This game is boring. The scares, the puzzles, the atmosphere, the 20 minute monologue at the end... everything... BORING! I wanted to quit halfway through but the achievements unlock just from playing the game so i decided to finish it. Was hoping it would get better, or scarier, along the way... it didn't. The music sometimes is a little unsettling but that's all this game has going for it. I got it on sale for a couple bucks. Can't imagine how frustrated I'd be if I paid the full 14.99. I just feel like there's other games to spend your time AND money on. Skip this one.

The concept is interesting and has a really unnerving & creepy atmosphere, but the execution is very lacking. The bugs, combined with the weird and obscure triggers needed to progress (some were nearly impossible to activate even with guides, requiring restart of the episode) were genuinely frustrating.
James had perfect grades and even a great scholarship offer, so he’s supposed to be a smart guy. Why wouldn’t he just hand the incriminating document over to the police and let the government deal with the decrepit evil grandma? Why concoct such an insanely complicated murder plot instead? It makes no sense. And how the f did the police not suspect her in the original murders? Was she really that much of a hitman? The whole thing was so stupid it genuinely annoyed me. Also the excessive repetition of the accident story and other events, over and over again in a game that’s already slow and buggy, was extra irritating.
IT'S GOD'S BASEMENT BUT HE'S NOT HERE (OR IS HE?) A great horror game with amazing atmosphere and dialogue. Even when all seems lost, hope is something everyone clings to. And who truly can give a second chance at redemption? Only He who owns the basement. A solid 8,5/10

I really enjoyed this game. The enviroment was really cool and the storyline was creepy. Great entry level horror game for sure. The suspense is so well done! This would be great for newbie horror gamers that want to test out the genre. More experianced horror gamer's may not be keen, I don't think.

Literally 10/10 storyline. 7/10 gameplay. But holy heck... Best storyline of a game I've ever played, tbh.
