✦ AI summary
Players praise Triminals' unique and inventive card mechanics, particularly the intensity system that ties card power to positioning and cost, creating engaging strategic depth through hand management. However, the game suffers from polish issues and balancing problems that persist even from earlier builds, with some players finding the presentation and narrative setup intriguing but underdeveloped.
Card mechanics work much like in any other deck-based game: you draw a random set of cards from your deck and play them either on yourself or on an enemy. You can play any card as long as you have enough energy, which replenishes at the end of each round. Once a card is played, the remaining cards shift to the left, and a new one is drawn into your hand. Your hand consists of all the cards you can play during the current round. An important element is intensity, which appears above your hand. Intensity modifies both the cost and effect of a card. For example, a standard card that deals three damage will deal six damage if its intensity is two. Since cards move left after each action, strategic planning is crucial. You can, for instance, sacrifice a card and some energy to shift a defensive card to intensity three, granting much-needed armor to withstand the next enemy attack. You can also preview the enemy’s actions for the next round, allowing you to plan ahead. However, managing your energy becomes a challenge because you control a party of three heroes, each with unique cards and skills, and all heroes share a single energy pool. Additionally, heroes possess special attacks th…2 found this helpful
I did think I would be quick to write a review on the game, but out of the game, it has its share of problems that even the old demo that was up months ago that's still here. The quick summary of Triminals is that you play as 3 heroes that look like they're trapped in a jail cell or something, and you have to battle through their memories in order to escape the jail. You'll do that through battles, drafting cards, etc. The game's uniqle mechanic is that the power of your cards determines what slot in its, which is also the mana cost. The higher the number, the more you pay for the card, but the stronger it is. After a card is played, it either stays where it is, or move to the leftmost or rightmost slot, shifting all cards in that direction 1 space towards where the original card came from. There's is some decision making here for that, which I'm still trying to figure out. However, the game has its share of problems like my mentioned eariler, which I'm describe below: 1. The balancing of early game enemies is basically through the roof in terms of damage numbers, debuffs, etc. The game will throw an elite battle at you on the 3rd and 6th nodes of area one, and you go against 3-…2 found this helpful
The Triminals, developed and published by Basement Games, is an inventive indie title that merges tactical, turn-based strategy with the deckbuilding genre in an unexpected and highly engaging way. Set within a world that exists outside of time and space, the game introduces players to a trio of mysterious heroes known as the Triminals—beings who have emerged from the void to uncover the secrets of their forgotten pasts. This setup provides an intriguing blend of metaphysical storytelling and structured gameplay, where each journey feels both personal and tactical, driven by the tension between memory, destiny, and combat. The setting gives the experience a dreamlike and paradoxical tone, positioning the game somewhere between science fiction and philosophical mystery, a fitting backdrop for its complex mechanics and layered progression. At the heart of The Triminals lies a distinctive approach to deckbuilding. Instead of treating each character as an isolated unit with their own deck, the game merges all character decks into one shared pool. This design choice fundamentally changes the dynamic of play, forcing the player to think about synergy not just within a single hero’s card…2 found this helpful
