Throne of Hearts: Rise from the Nightmare

As a streamer I was gifted this game by someone who voiced a character in this game. I am forever grateful for such an opportunity but know my review may be bias as a result. This game having been clearly been the result of hard work from many voice actors and developers has shown great promise in this game. The world and characters that has been created in this narrative are top tier. However, just because I got the game for free doesn't mean I don't have some criticisms. First the game is short. Really short. I felt like the ending was rushed and there could have been more there and the game as a whole felt more like an introduction to a world rather than a finished product. I felt like I was just getting to know some of the characters and just like that its was over. I get its hard to have that many voice actors working on a project for so long but I feel like if they spent more time to let the world and story truly completely develop and possibly expand further on what events transpire after what felt should have been just a stepping stone of a fight not an ending fight it could have been a greater and grander story. Throne of Hearts: A visual novel that is dedicated to finding your true purpose as a Takeda after losing your parents. With 7 endings being "good" and 7 endings being "bad". The characters solely focused on Lain, Eri and Minori. I was hoping there'd be more love to the side characters that you chose like Gwen and Kosuke. I personally found Gwen my favorite character out of all of the others. Since her ending was the most interesting out of them all/ I was hoping that she'd have a background when it came to her ending instead of the usual park scene/dark scene. Worst ending in my opinion is the cheap ending where Minori gives you an allowance and you have the option to offer a little bit to the shrine and finding out the spirit will haunt you. Horrifying ending would have to go to Chiyo. In my honest opinion what I would improve on this game is using pronoun names when it came to characters referring you. There were certain parts in the story since it didn't really make sense to refer the character you're playing as (blank). There were also a few bugs too like Minori's voice not playing during the rescue mission scene and voice levelling being drastically different for each characte…

I was gifted this game by the development team prior to its release. I am very much grateful for the opportunity to play this game. However, as someone reviewing this game, I will not allow any bias to sway me. While the visual novel was short, which is expected for a visual novel, it was certainly engaging. The characters in the novel were fleshed out if you go down the right paths for them, and the voice acting was very well done. Also, I feel that Chiyo has very good potential as a secondary antagonist due to her being a "human evil" to contrast the monsters being a "supernatural evil", although I feel that more can be done to flesh this out. What I felt that needed to be improved was adding more visual pictures when it comes to describing scenes. I'm talking about the victory scenes, the death scenes, the romance scenes, and even the scenes where it describes what happens in combat. I'm all for reading the wall of text, but I felt that for a visual novel it really fell short on that front. The game was fun, it is very short and getting some of the endings will make you spend quite some time engaging with the lovely characters. The skip mechanic allows you to finish the game in less than one minute and the huge amount of save slots feels a little off, however they were very useful at the alternative endings part of the game. Using those mechanics make you wonder whether they were intentional or just some leftovers from the development team to test the decision making. The story feels a little rushed at the end, we only see and defeat 2 monsters and achieve peace although they somehow destroyed a whole village and tormented the world. Why do you make me believe there would be goblins, drakes, dragons just to never show any of those? The best thing of the game is the 5 different romances you are allowed to pursue, it is what you will remember the most at the end and not the wacky world around them.
