I completed Toleo, after 5,886 deaths and nearly 23 hours. It feels great to play. The character is responsive, the movement feels so smooth. Jumping and sliding just feel innately satisfying. For a game with only 2 buttons plus directions, I'm surprised that even at the very end I would still ask "how do I do this jump?" Because even in its simplicity, there is so much to master, there are so many jumping puzzles that require thought and experimentation. I think a great precision platformer will have you feel like every death was your own fault, not the game's, and for the most part, that is the case. Every now and then you hit a checkpoint where your main hurdle is the RNG of an enemy - "I would have made that jump if that enemy wasn't there!" Well, you'll have to learn to get back to that spot consistently, and hope luck's on your side next time. I'm someone who usually uninstalls games at the first hurdle, but with Toleo I never even considered stopping. It *makes* you want to beat it. It's just fun to play. Even now I'm looking at more games like this to play next, because I want more. How many games do that?

there is a world between breaths that games like toleo live in. a kind of stillness where one has to achieve a void of mind near death or something like it. i had to leave my body behind and simply become a series of inputs. it was glorious to kiss that light for fleeting seconds at a time.

A precision platformer with gimmicks, that has pretty difficult jumps and very easy sections mixed together. But at some point through the game, thanks to the solid soundtrack and smart level design, I came to the realization that it's more about the atmosphere than about the platforming. I just kind of vibed with the game, and that's what made me enjoy it.

This game ... is hilarious, and I don't mean that the game TRIES to be hilarious, but it simply is ... just in how it exists. The biggest part of that being the difficulty scaling. It is all over the damn place, so much so that it actually cracked me up. The first stage does what you would expect most beginner levels to do, teach you the game and slowly introduce you to new concepts / stuff you can do in the game / etc. However, the moment you start the second area, the difficulty spikes tremendously. It's a night and day difference. It feels like the 5th or 6th area should've come after the first area or that at least some of these stages should be swapped around, they really do not make sense at all. Honestly I'm impressed the game is even as playable as it is currently, but there's certainly a few sections in the game that are bugged and do not behave quite as you would expect. I've been able to recreate most of them and one of them I'm pretty sure makes an already difficult jump even more difficult, encroaching right into the "actually unfair for the player" territory, but this game seems as though it was never created with that in mind at all to begin with. Now, I mig…
