Honestly, I am not impressed. The sprite pixel art is nice, the animations detailed (main protagonist's hair when crouching), but the controls are strangely stiff, you have only one attack, the secondary weapons are inconsistent (you lose them when retrying bossfights), tiniest enemies bounce you back, usually into an insta-kill pit. Monsters appear out of nowhere, some are complete joke (spearman), some are super annoying (the jumping hand). The last bossfight has two stages, with the second one being quite unfair. The translation is full of typos and strange expressions ("lifes", "I am whom they who breathe want to... what??!"), and while the in-game sprites are of high quality, the portraits are of teenage fan fiction level, and the writing is "I can't really write, but let me try". It's not a totally abysmal game, but it's no miracle either.3 found this helpful
Sorry pal, I can't recommend this. The biggest issue with the game is amateur game and level design. I don't mind the store-bought assets, I don't even mind the clunky controls too much. But the game is just bland, repetitive and often tedious. It's VERY bare bones. I get that it's a pretty direct clone of Castlevania 1. But man that's just not enough for a game in the 21st century, especially if you are trying to sell it. The game looks and feels very much like a "first project" type game and likely should be freeware on some obscure indie site. But these days everyone is trying to sell their rough practice projects for cash, which I get, I did the same. But customers aren't your friends, they're not gonna feel proud of you for finishing a project. They're gonna criticize a mediocre product they purchased. But I don't wanna just krap on the game without pointing out some details, try to be constructive of course. So I'll point out a few things here: - Blind jumps/drops are common and often punished hard with high damage spikes. - Bad enemy/hazard RNG can create inescapable patterns that lead to forced damage. - Forced backtracking for keys and doors in a linear stage-based act…1 found this helpful
Very short game, but solid gameplay and story. I got it on sale in a bundle, so think I paid like a dollar. Well worth it. It plays much like the very original castlevanias with slightly more modern graphics, design and gameplay elements. Should grab the fancy of most castlevania fans, old and new. Casual difficulty should be simple enough for just about anyone. I'm looking forward to playing through the sequel.
Not a very good castlevania imitation. Gave it a solid 2+ hours but I'm not impressed. Just play the classics, this doesn't add anything.
Good feel and difficulty for this classic Castlevania style game :p
Amazing metroidvania style game. I enjoyed everything about it. Music was good, attention to details was good. Especially the lighting to the candles after you destroy them, the room gets a little bit dark but nothing drastic. Going to play number 2 soon. Can not wait to see what unfolds.
