Trainpunk Run

Loaded it up, saw the posturing crap about women pilots on intro screen; saw the tedious virtue signalling about "only for men" on the level screen, quit out, tried to write review, was forced to log back in for 5 minutes. Saw the "Big Bad" is monocle wearing man. It's Unity asset shovelware which plays a bit like a cross between the old Lander and stargate DOS games. Clearly been created so some gender studies students could shoehorn their infinitely tedious strawman politics and a bunch of tedious woke tropes into a "game". I got it as part of a bundle of mystery keys, so probably cost about 20p and feel ripped off. Avoid like the plague.

Trainpunk Run is an enjoyable game, provided you take it for what it is, and not what it isn't. Trainpunk Run is a simple sidescroller where you are in a plane and you have to dodge enemies, fire bullets, collect coins and deliver mail. It's all familiar territory for the genre, but it sets itself apart by not only being endearingly charming with its steampunk aesthetic, but also by paying tribute to the women pioneers of aviation. It may not have photo-realistic graphics (the backgrounds are genuinely terrific paintings, however) or a ton of features (there is a shop with customization options and new abilities), but it is a game that you can have fun with and learn a bit of history from. Just remember to--again--judge Trainpunk Run for what it is. It is a light game that is meant to be played lightly; so long as you come in with that expectation, it will be great. Personal note: it really upsets me when indie games don't get any kind of traction. Therefore, if you played this game, please write a truthful (and kind) review. I streamed this game only because I saw no one else had even reviewed it on Steam, and it was a solid experience for me.

Fun shooter with steampunk theme. There are several levels with upgrades that you can buy with in-game coins. GRAPHICS Steampunk-arphic. CONTROLS Keyboard and Mouse. Mouse is for navigating the menus; Keyboard is for controlling your female pilot (the game is dedicated to the women flyers of yesteryear). W = gain altitude V = thrust Spacebar = weapon firing ONLY ONE DOWNSIDE The controls aren't mappable, nor is there controller support, but I got use to them. The V is right above the spacebar, so I used my right hand for firing and for thrust, and my left hand for gaining altitude. I just got this game today, but I've already placed it in my Favorites. Wish Steam had a neutral rating. Got it in a Fanatical mystery bundle, so I think it cost me around 40 cents. For a 40 cent game, it's pretty fun. For a game in general, you will get tired of it in 10 minutes. Cute theme, but no real challenge or interesting gameplay to keep you engaged. I played long enough to unlock every costume choice, because I'm a completionist. Kept waiting for the game to get challenging, to see new enemies or obstacles, but there is no depth here. Check it out if you get it in a bundle or for free. Otherwise, pass.

Trainpunk Run is a simple 2D ripoff of Flappy Bird with a bit of shooting involved as you swoop on some "Steam bike" or whatever endlessly to the right. I know what you're thinking, a crap Flappy Bird ripoff can't possibly be the pinnacle of PC gaming... and you're absolutely correct. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic low quality art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the mediocre 2D visuals. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers. This looks and feels like a mobile app, but I wasn't able to find it on the app stores. Maybe it was removed, maybe it was rejected by Apple and Google (they do have more rigorous quality standards than Valve does for Steam, after all). Trainpunk Run seems like a shoot em up but it actually plays much more like Jetpack Joyride. You have to deliver mails, collect objects and travel a certain distance to complete a level. Although it might seem like a fun game, i have to say it is mind numbingly boring and uninspired. There are a lot of glaring issues you will notice as soon as you start playing. Backgrounds are pixelated, it only has one song on repeat, everything looks like asset flips and the game feels like a demo project you find in game engines. Gameplay is shallow and never gets better. You will experience everything it has to offer in the first 2 minutes. I gave it a fair shot and played through the whole game to see if they mix up the gameplay but nothing new gets introduced and you keep doing the same stuff over and over again. Worst thing is, levels aren't fully random. You keep passing the same exact obstacles and places constantly. In short, its boring, tedious and very repetitive. I wouldn't recommend giving it a shot even if you got it for free.
