Transcendence Legacy - Voidswept

[h1] This is the Octopath Traveler we have at home. [/h1] Terrible keyboard support. Consistent freezing that renders the game unplayable. Dialogue is painful to get through. Game is average at best, an afternoon project at worst. As a proof of concept this may be a worthy graduation project for an undergraduate degree, but it does not equate to what is expected of this space, which is a fairly low bar.

Playtime: 8h02m (with much running around searching for a missing key) Story: nothing new, the world is on the brink of destruction and you and your partners hope to avoid it. Basically, this is a very simple game. Despite that (I really don't know why), I liked it. It doesn't offer an open world, and the few dungeons are relatively small. They only contain a few puzzles of the "move me, then a path opens" or "defeat me, then you can proceed" variety. So, you shouldn't expect too much from this game. Well, at least there's a New Game+ mode. Here you can choose whether to continue with the items and stats from your previous save or start completely from scratch. Final verdict: If you're looking for a harmless game without much difficulty, this is the one for you. My rating: 6/10

Short easy RPG for beginners.

[b]Fully played on Steam Deck.[/b] Transcendence Legacy - Voidswept is a short JRPG, which has some resemblances to the Octopath Series. Personally, I enjoyed the few hours I sank into it. I somehow wished the story was a bit longer, especially a few more cutscenes at the end would have been good, in my opinion. Nevertheless, you start with two named characters, which both have lost their memories and only recall that someone called out to them. On the way to the mentioned location, you meet other people, who join your party, and walk through a few dungeons to kill some 'super bosses'. The gameplay wasn't overly complicated, but I wished there was more information on what the stats do and how strong the skills are. Which stat boosts my outgoing healing for example? Also, what do the skill upgrades do? (+3 on a skill upgrade reduces the mana cost by one... but what of the rest? Are they just improving efficiency? If so, by how much?) I would have really loved to see more in-depth skill description including values (before and after upgrade) of how much dmg they do. After getting the AoE skills, I never bothered to use single target spells again... However... I am still unsure, …

Much better game than I expected. Nice simple gameplay with fun sense of progression. The skills getting more powerful with lower MP cost is a nice feature. Plentiful bonfires makes it easy to replenish HP/MP for free, making the harp's tiny bit of HP/MP regen for a bunch of clicks not all that useful though. Overall, recommended.
