About Trivia Throwdown

Trivia Throwdown is a climb-the-mountain trivia / quiz challenge with a fighting game style, designed for a wide range of knowledge levels.

Features:
  • 2500+ questions designed to not repeat until you've exhausted all in a given category.
  • 🌍 Optional American Bias Filter: This game was developed in the US, so many questions skew toward American topics. For international players, this filter captures most of those questions (mainly in the categories Geography & Politics, History, and Sports).
  • 🤨 More than just a casual game! Trivia Throwdown’s unique promotion/relegation Ascent Mode means you can spend hours climbing to the top of 10 ranks of escalating difficulty – every match carries the stakes of bringing you one step closer to ranking up or down.
  • ♟️ Strategic gameplay: both breadth of knowledge and playing up your own strengths are rewarded. You can still win even if your knowledge is weak in one or two categories!
  • 👪 Five distinct difficulties accomodate a wide range of skill levels. With an optional adult content filter and novice-level difficulty setting, even kids can play!
  • 📈 Dynamic difficulty scaling: questions become harder or easier based on your performance.
  • 💡 Equal parts pop-culture and academic trivia from the following categories: Movies & Television, Literature & Fine Arts, Games, General Knowledge, Geography & Politics, History, Music, Science & Technology, and Sports.
  • 🎵 Vibrant electronic soundtrack featuring 20+ synthwave, ambient hip hop, and 16-bit beat 'em up chiptune tracks.
  • 🛋️ Local couch multiplayer - square off against a frienemy for a quick match (play with 2 controllers, or share a keyboard), or alternatively recruit them to feed you answers and help you top the Ascent Mode!
  • ⏲️ Play as long as you like - Progress is saved after each question, so you can play for any stretch of time.

Special Thanks to PixelTail Games (developer of TowerUnite, also available on Steam) and their Open Trivia Database for providing hundreds of additional questions.

This is one big steaming pile of AWESOME TRIVIA. Coming from Jackbox and the like, I was unsure how mush the group and I were going to like this. We like it a lot. I wish this game had fatalities, but the gameplay is great. Big daddy first and third bottom of the 8th with nobody out. This worked well as a coop game on steam; the "host" in the one to select the answer and gets the other players to give the answer they think is correct. GREAT game.

Despite having the option to choose more international questions, there are still FAR too many America-centric questions. It's almost like the people who created them have no concept of other countries not being educated on the history of a nation that is entirely irrelevant to them individually. Maybe the option isn't there to remove ALL the American history/sport/politics questions because without them perhaps the game would have barely any of its own. While the game does also include questions from the Open Trivia Database, it's still not ideal as that DB is updated by average people, not academics. Therefore you'll often encounter questions that are misleading at best and plain wrong at worst. On top of this, the single player game structure in TT is atrocious. You play a succession of foes in a best-of-3 match. However it appears the developers don't understand how that concept works: Winning 2 games and losing 1 is NOT a draw, as they seem to think. You can only improve your rank by winning 2 in a row. In other words, the game makes you play all 3 rounds despite you knowing in advance that you can't improve your rank because you lost one of the two rounds already played. …

Me and my wife played this one together via Remote Play when we were in the mood for some trivia. I didn't even know that it would let me review a game I didn't own, but have played...so learned something new! It was a bit laggy on Remote Play, but we were doing it with wifi involved so I don't think it is the fault of the game. Honestly, it was simple to play but had enough unique features that it was more fun than just straight trivia. Trivia is "make or break" around the questions, but the questions all felt reasonable...nothing too niche knowledge and nothing too easy. All in all, this was a pretty good trivia game!
