The best way I can describe this game is 'pulpy' in the Robert E Howard way. A self contained little story about a knight errant named Ser Anvil Caphus who just wants to party after a long trek and is mildly inconvenienced by some lich. So the most reasonable thing to do is of course go kill it. I know a lot of people dislike Ser Anvil for his crude language and fixation on getting wine and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ but I LIKE the refreshing honesty of the character. The combat is the best part of this, melees feel like proper skirmishes that can get very chaotic and brutal quickly. The undead feel like they're as durable and as soft as they should be just looking at them and finding weak points in their armor is encouraged. My only issue is the back slots are dedicated ONLY to bows, and large weapons such as claymores and great axes have to go on the belt slot... Bows make up a lot of puzzle solving but Darkcurry put them where you need them to progress anyways so... ???? The downside to this is the enemies are very basic, it's all humanoid undead. No flesh golems or stitched together horrors. Just risen corpses in various states of decay. If you can look past that this is a very fun dark fantasy …

Meathead cut-em-up with the most unpleasantly unnecessary story mode I've seen in a long time. it's like it's performing clinical reconstructions of jokes, completely faithful to genre tropes and "what you'd expect" but not actually understanding what makes something funny. Your character just screams about brothels for most of the first act and then becomes completely devoid of personality for the rest of the game, fading into ambient crankiness. Much like the main character, the level and mechanical design of this game is not clever, with most of the puzzles being "find something somewhere in these soupy visuals." This kind of 2002 action-platformer deal results in an atrocious final bossfight that feels like it's straight out of a bad god of war copycat. I was just gonna leave this game alone because I like to see a VR game succeed these days but that final bossfight was so deepy underwhelming and tremendously frustrating that I'm over it. oh and the inventory made me lose my mind, I couldn't do anything without pulling potions off my belt and throwing them across the room. Christ.
