Vampire: The Masquerade – Heartless Lullaby is a narrative-focused roleplaying game set within the dark and morally decaying universe of the World of Darkness. Despite its relatively short length and smaller development scale, the game succeeds at capturing the atmosphere, emotional conflict, and political tension that define the Vampire: The Masquerade setting. Rather than focusing on combat-heavy gameplay or large open-world exploration, Heartless Lullaby centers almost entirely around dialogue, roleplaying decisions, and character-driven storytelling. The result is an intimate supernatural drama filled with manipulation, emotional vulnerability, and the constant fear of losing one’s humanity in a world ruled by predators. The story follows two protagonists whose lives gradually become intertwined through the dangerous politics of vampire society. Zak begins as an ordinary human slowly drawn into the hidden world operating beneath the surface of the city, while Diane is a Toreador vampire struggling with her fading humanity and the brutal realities of immortal existence. The dual perspective structure works extremely well because it allows players to experience both sides of the…1 found this helpful
fun little game. i'd definitely be intrigued to hear about a continuation to this story, with some more resources put into it. my major complaint is the walk speed is just so extraordinarily slow. it was pretty short and ended somewhat abruptly, but for a game jam game that you play for free, it's pretty good.
Short and sweet
I came late, and what we got was a clunky & janky VTM game with a vanilla story lacking all that made the WoD interesting and all that made Vampire the Masquerade a bit unique. The story is linear, and as so often, our choices make no noteworthy differences. The characters forced on us suck, as they are badly designed & ill-fitting the story. Some graphical issues may sabotage one or two tasks in the game, and overall the feeling that the DEVS simply had given up on the game, throwing a not fully finished junk at us... It remained factually true. 🤕
no save so thumbs down from me. the vibe was cool though
Definitely feels like the short, game jam project that it is, this is nevertheless an intriguing proof of concept for an isometric, story-driven take on VTM. There's not much in the way of choice here - but does hint at some compelling possibilities if this can expand.
