Worst art style compare to all seasons, look A.I generated. Story? it's just long and boring.

Effectively the third part of the New York trilogy of games, Reckoning of New York takes us back to Vampire: the Masquerade in what the licence appears to be the most comfortable with - Visual Novels of all things. Just like the previous two, this one functions perfectly fine as a standalone although you will appreciate seeing established characters. Even if Reckoning doesn't honor previous decisions since there's no save import to work with. Still worth checking out regardless. New Year of 2024 is almost upon us which should be a time for celebration... unless you're Kali of clan Ravnos who just got accosted up by local Camarilla enforcement and dragged to see the Prince. Not that Kali is innocent, hailing from a clan of con artists and tricksters, but this seems to concern her Sire who is apparently in even deeper problems involving some serious smuggling. Getting a stay of execution under the condition she delivers her absentee Sire to New York's Camarilla, Kali pulls a fast one and gets a sympathetic Caitiff mediator to accompany her, lest she flee the city. So begins a week of nocturnal mishaps featuring Kali and Padraic as they hunt for clues, avoid vampire hunters and nav…

Skip this. Save yourself the coins, the time, the underwhelm. While the prospect of encountering characters from the infamous and generally underrepresented clans
Malkavian
and
Tzimisce
may seem enticing, there only qualities to be discovered are boredom and disappointment. Like you, I enjoyed the first two instalments — Coteries & Shadows of NY. I liked the interactive visual novel format; the atmospheric overlay of graphics, sound; the writing. I liked that there were some interconnections between the separate arcs. Those chapters also had their plot holes and shortcomings, but at least there's a plot for those holes to be in. There was atmosphere; you got a feel for the different personalities you encounter. In part 1 and 2, you possessed, sort of, the ability to make a choice now and then, which in turn flavored the way scenes played out. Remember that? Yeah? Now, forget about it. If you insist on entering Reckoning, you must leave all those expectations at the door. You will inevitably attempt to finally add some of that depth you were left hungering for throughout the stale experience of your first playthrough by replaying the w…

It's a fine story and works in characters from the series fairly well. The graphics and music are less engaging than the prior entries, so I'd definitely start with them first, but if you liked them, I'd get this on sale.

Better than I feared, considering the mixed reviews. Kali caters to a younger audience I guess, but she only annoyed me during Pádraic playthrough. I guess she's meant to be annoying. Pádraic's story on the other hand was quite interesting. I'd recommend you playing both stories for the additional scenes and closure. Cool VtM title, nowhere near the heights of Shadows (who doesn't love Julia?), but satisfying. My main complaint is that I expected more reckoning.
