FAST-PACED ACTION ROGUELITE COMBAT
Vanquish Evil aims to take the most fun core gameplay from the ARPG/Roguelite/Survivors-like genres -- and crank up the action to one thousand percent! Where player skill and strategic upgrade choices strongly influence the runs. In addition to auto-abilities, the game is also a Twin-Stick Shooter where certain abilities have manual direction and activation. The game has a signature design, influenced by weapon evolutions, called Ascended Synergies. These abilities are created from combining 2 chosen upgrades after both have been chosen. These will usually have level requirements before they appear as upgrade choices.THE STORY
A supernatural cosmic battle is being fought for the mortal realm, and much of the world is already in ruin.A final resistance of humanity are brave enough to fight. Many die, and are turned into undead armies who serve the formless evil cosmic presence known as Absolute Darkness (Vile).Ascended Light (Veil), a cosmic presence in favor of saving humanity, send Cosmic Guardians to fight alongside the mortal armies. The final elite army of heroes stand together to fight an apocalyptic war with one common goal...Vanquish Evil.
GAME DEVELOPMEMENT GOALS
Creating fun gameplay and high replay value is the goal. The game in it's current state is built to have all character progression in-game for that specific run, which gives the game a lot of replay value. The game now has meaningful meta progression. Trade Soul Crystals from vanquished enemies for Gold Coins, which are then used to buy Gear and Items. Gear enables spells and other abilities that the player can equip to then use within a run. You can choose what Gear you want to equip or un-equip in the SHOP menu. You can also buy Items, which are permanent meta progression in the form of buffs and passives.SPECIAL FEATURES
Stylized hand-drawn pixel art, animation, and background art! Original Music Soundtrack, paying homage to classic retro RPG soundtracks!
What Steam players say

Vanquish Evil shows promise as a fun survivor-style roguelite with engaging active combat and creative weapon designs, though players note it's rough around the edges with polish issues like inconsistent hit registration, UI problems, and balance concerns. The game has potential and deserves support as a small developer project, but current technical bugs and unpolished feel prevent it from fully matching competitors like Vampire Survivors, though players express optimism it will improve over time.
Vanquish Evil is an action roguelite that enters the crowded survivor-style genre with a strong focus on active combat, character customization, and build experimentation. Developed and published by Vanquish Evil, the game places players in a world consumed by darkness, where the last remnants of humanity fight against overwhelming supernatural forces. While the premise follows a familiar battle between light and evil, the title uses that foundation to deliver a fast-paced experience built around constant action and progression rather than deep storytelling. At its core, the game combines elements of bullet-heaven gameplay with twin-stick shooter mechanics. Instead of relying entirely on automatic attacks, players are encouraged to stay actively engaged by aiming abilities, maneuvering through swarms of enemies, and making quick decisions under pressure. This creates a more hands-on experience than many similar titles. Every run becomes a balancing act between survival, positioning, and maximizing damage output as increasingly dangerous waves of enemies flood the battlefield. The result is a combat system that feels energetic and rewarding, especially for players who enjoy maintai…3 found this helpful
I'm gonna recommend it cuz I feel you gotta support a small dev. However I will say this was a rough one to play, and honestly didn't hook me enough to play more, your can tell this is the first outting with things like the sun aura not always registering hits. I will come back to this in time, and I do hope the dev keeps working on it. For me, I feel like this will be one I come back to in a year or two and go "wow this acturally got really good" So throw $5 at the cat for crying out loud, don't even act like you haven't spent $5 on something way worse and less rewarding.1 found this helpful
I gave this game a chance because it had no reviews, the game is very unpolished but has fun aspects that redeem it. if you like vampire survivors but with more player controlled weapons and different stages to the levels you'll like this. It doesn't quite compare vampire survivors but its been fun so far. I like that the characters and bosses have a little bit of dialogue and the unique design of some of the weapons. I would say the cons are that monsters can push exp making it hard to collect if the swarm of monsters traps it in between them. The return to game button is small when pausing so it took me a minute to find it, and the exit game button doesn't work. Also do NOT fight the last map with the ice queen because the hit effects trigger so quickly that the boss flash brightly every milisecond, and I personally prefer not to be blinded.1 found this helpful
