Velvet Sundown is an unconventional multiplayer role-playing experience that places conversation, deception, improvisation, and social interaction ahead of the combat and progression systems normally associated with the RPG genre. Developed and published by Tribe Studios, the game originally arrived on Steam in 2014 as a free-to-play title built around an intriguing concept: a group of strangers is placed aboard a luxurious yacht, each person receives a character with personal motivations, and the resulting story develops according to how those players interact. Rather than guiding everyone through a tightly scripted narrative, Velvet Sundown establishes a dramatic situation and allows its participants to become the primary source of unpredictability. The setting revolves around the Velvet Sundown, a luxury yacht sailing through the waters surrounding the fictional Caribbean state of Balbonia.
