About Video Game Fables

"Video Game Fables" is a funny, lighthearted RPG adventure set in an abandoned game world that hasn't had a player in decades.
The world's script gets completely ruined by someone calling herself "The Forsaken Princess." It's up to Aru (the world's princess), Nate (an NPC aspiring to be a hero), and Tator (the villain's son) to get things back to normal...or maybe change everything forever.
- Lighthearted humor throughout the dialog, characters, and world.
- Fun narrative and story that doesn't rely on parody and has its own identity.
- Challenging, fast-paced, turn-based battles that require strategy and quick thinking.
- Twists on turn-based combat such as the CRIT system which lets you store a CRIT and use on a later turn.
- Insane boss fights that break the battle system.
- Unique XP and leveling system which lets you allocate resources to setup your party strategically.
- Skill crafting, light class system that changes play styles slightly depending on equipped weapon, weapon upgrades, mining, fishing, simple gardening, and many more fun features.

While playing this game, I imagined the developer smiling to himself as he wrote the dialogue and designed the boss encounters. "But what if..." "and maybe she should..." "Oh man, that would be so funny!" and I smiled with him. I was a kid again, playing pretend, dreaming up fun ideas for quests in my backyard. There's a lot of pressure for games to leave an impact these days. I'll say right now, this game probably won't change your worldview. BUT, if you let it, it will absolutely leave you smiling. Pros: - extremely unique boss encounters. These aren't even simple gimmicks, they completely change the rules (or game genre) for each major fight - the base combat is also very unique. critical hits are both your MP and an ability modifier, XP is somehow both a skilltree and a traditional level system, timed turn bonuses, strategy through choosing your turn order...there's a lot going on and yet its all extremely intuitive. - it's very silly. I giggled AND chuckled plenty of times. - short and sweet, never got boring. Finished it in a little over 10 hours which felt just right. Cons: - Honestly, just one: it could have benefited from some visual polish. It wears its inspirations pro…3 found this helpful
I normally don't write reviews, but this game definitely deserves one. Video Game Fables is not the most aesthetically pleasing, and felt pretty crude to play at times, but I'm glad I stuck around. wish there were more polish in the first few hours of the game, but the ending was definitely worth the payoff. I encountered no bugs, but the keyboard control scheme was a bit jank and the game didn't run that well on my RX580 graphics card. However, despite all this, the story and gameplay carried the game and I had a lot of fun playing this game. If you love a game with narrative that doesn't take itself too seriously, you should try out this game1 found this helpful
Super adorable send up of JRPGs with plenty of quirky humor to go 'round.1 found this helpful
I should have reviewed this game a lot earlier but tbh I wanted to review it when I finished it and then I forgot about the game and died, oops It's a good game though, the worst thing I can say about it is that it looks like one person made the game, but that's because one person made the game. Combat is fun and the dialogue is pretty funny, it reminds me somewhat of Paper Mario.
finally, another turn/party based rpg very similar to paper mario series and bug fables. It is very short compared to those games as it only last around 12-15hrs, but it is very fun all the way through. I wish more games like this were made. +battle system, different compared to other games. You have HP, and instead of skill points you have CRIT system, basic attacks grant crits that can enables skills (certain ones need them, but the crit effects all skills). Almost all skills were useful, no filler or unnecessary skills, later on each skill can transform into a different variation. Instead of separate levels, the team shares the level. They also share XP which lets you equip items and skills. +unique battles. major fights took different turns and twists, even the gameplay changed up. refreshing +funny dialogue, while it does come off as a parody game, they have an original script, by not following the script. lmao! Each person has their own moment to shine throughout the game. +great ost +controller support - not a big con, some parts were a bit choppy (late game cutscenes, some parts of the overworld) this game was made by one dev, so we'll let it slide. - if you love yourself…
It may look like a low-detailed rpg, but it's a low-detailed rpg with the most fun awaiting thee
