About Village of Origins
ENGAGE:
Village of Origins reimagines classic gameplay by blending retro point-and-click puzzle-solving with dynamic RPG storytelling and quick combat. The core of the experience lies in the body-swapping mechanic, allowing you to control an array of hosts at any moment, each bringing their own skills and advantages. Use this power to outsmart enemies, solve environmental puzzles, and navigate the world in unique ways. The mechanic is “easy to learn but hard to master,” offering endless experimentation and depth.
EXPLORE:
Journey through four distinct worlds—the bustling City, the peaceful Castle, the mystic Mountains, and the fractured Isles. Each area is filled with quests, collectibles, and narrative threads that enrich your adventure. Uncover hidden lore, meet quirky characters, and experience unique challenges that reward curiosity. Alongside the crafted worlds, venture into the Forest of Formings, a procedurally generated space that offers a way to gather resources and encounter fresh challenges.
FIGHT:
Unlock 50 unique host bodies, each with their own combat styles, weapons, and abilities. Craft your team wisely, switching between hosts to master diverse strategies and tackle formidable foes. Whether battling relentless hordes or powerful bosses, the body-swapping mechanic keeps combat fresh, allowing you to adapt on the fly. Engage with hosts ranging from mystical spellcasters wielding complex spells to gritty brawlers who give as good as they get to… modern construction workers who not only install HVACs but know exactly how to use them. Each offers a distinct approach, turning every battle into a unique challenge.

Village of Origins is a well-crafted indie RPG centered around a unique body-swapping mechanic that encourages creative problem-solving in both combat and puzzles, with charming retro visuals, varied environments, and multiple character options that reward experimentation and discovery. Players consistently praise the creative gameplay depth, developer transparency, and good difficulty balance, though the game's quirky nature and experimental mechanics may not appeal to everyone looking for a more traditional RPG experience.
The only reason I'm aware of this game is because on YouTube the developer made nice and helpful videos on how to navigate Steamworks. This was very helpful for myself, as a new solo developer for my new steam game still in EA. Thanks to this developer, I was able to get my game published through his clear instructions, so the least that I can do is buy his game. I've only played a few minutes of it and can see it's pretty well programmed and I commend the fact that he did his own artwork. I had to rely on assets. Anyway I will look forward to playing this, as the granny character's special attack is just plain awesome.5 found this helpful
Village of Origins surprised me in the best way. At first glance it looks like a simple retro RPG, but the body-swapping mechanic completely changes how you approach both puzzles and combat. Every host you take over feels unique, and figuring out who to use in which situation is half the fun. The world is charming, with four distinct areas plus a procedurally generated forest that keeps exploration fresh. The gameplay stays engaging as you unlock new abilities and experiment with different playstyles. 10/101 found this helpful
I got the closed beta keys from the developer and was allowed to make a let's play of it. Many of the bugs I found got fixed. It is a unique game with a retro feel. The game mechanics have multiple layers, so even if you play the game for a while, you can still discover new stuff. Due to the many characters, there is room to play around and find a style that is fitting to you. Sometimes you find a trick and something suddenly gets much easier, and sometimes you don't figure it out and you have to struggle until you get your approach to work. Overall I enjoy the game and it has a good level of difficulty and creativity.1 found this helpful
