About Viy: Retold Story
This is a quest game built on the basis of superposition of real video and 3d-modelled surroundings.
As the game is based on the Gogol's story 'Vij', the complications coincide with this work almost completely, with the only exception of the possibility for the player to try and save Homa Brut from his death, which seems inevitable.
However, the player should remember, that the most of his attempts to change anything might also lead to the character's death.
There's quite a range of original logic and arcade minigames.
The player is easily plunged into the world that depicts the real world of the 18th century Malorossia.
The player no more 'works' inside the game, carefully rummaging around the locations, afraid to skip something important; he or she lives in the world presented, doing the things he or she wants.
- real artists
- 35 locations
- More than 3 hours high definition video.
- More than 30 playable locations.
- Arcade and logic games woven into the plot.

I don't speak russian and I did not look at the "english language not supported" part when I impulse bought this - on the contrary, I began playing it because I am not a coward. The story I can comment quite little on, but the set designs and clothing designs are delightful, also this has a late 90's edugame/cd rom kind of vibe which tickles my nostalgia. It's also a blast to play even with the language barrier. Good work!27 found this helpful
fmv point & click, not just an interactive movie with a few choices. manual saving anytime, skippable animations, the cursor changes over hotspots, but the game is only available in russian, as clearly indicated on the store page, so impossible to recommend unless you're familiar with the language. I was aware of the situation but was still curious (and vary of the dreaded arcade elements, none of which I got to experience) and there's no reason the ui couldn't be translated into at least english. surely the devs know somebody who speaks both, doesn't have to be perfect. the manual in the install folder is some consolation, still only in russian but can be quickly translated online. however, despite the store page claiming so, there are no subtitles to quickly copy-paste and make some sense of things, so even an english ui wouldn't do much. too bad.8 found this helpful
this game is an interesting topic, that much coincides with what is written in Gogol's story. There are many interesting locations, videos with actors who are trying hard to play their part, as well as a pleasant atmosphere that immerses you even more into the game4 found this helpful
