WarDogs: Red's Return

A really fun game that has been abandon it seems. Which is a such a shame because it feels like I found a hidden gem. Yes, I did have a few problems. One being I had to go into settings and turn on the music. Weird but not a big deal. The other is that i couldn't and still can't get into practice mode. Which once again isn't that big of a deal. The game is pretty easy to figure out on your own. The story is fun and the comic book arcade style is amazing!!! I love it and I feel like if it was touched up a bit and advertise well, well, it would do really well!! Know your audience! And there's two targets here at least! One being people who love/ miss the old "Beat em up" style and the other, you probably guessed it, FURIES!! and people who just simply love anthros. You don't have to be a furry to love anthros. Anyway, A lot more people are coming around to enjoy content involving human like animals and I like said, if this game was polished, marketed better and add some updates, I truly believe it would do great!!

Wardogs: Red's Return is a very interesting little game. It's a single player beat 'em up title, which normally would be a mark against it. But it works really well. You have basic combo attacks, two special moves that recharge after a while, and a meter you can fill for either an attack buff, healing, and a super move. The basic mechanics work well enough. One other unique thing is that you can find upgrade items as you play, as rewards from clearing stages. You can equip them for stat buffs. The game does a poor job of explaining exactly what each one does, and it doesn't show what the stat changes are when you change them out. Basically stuff yourself full of blue and purple items and hope for the best. There is a story that is told, well, not well. You're kinda thrown into it, without much background, and have to piece together what's happening. Basically you have a city of anthromorphic dogs, and your title character is from the slums, although he's tried to live in the 'rich' part of the city for a while. Short story and normal mode is quite easy but once you start doing the very hard daily missions or try to handle hard story mode without good implants there is some challenge. Enemies actually start using more moves but also become a bit too much of a bullet sponge. Great character design and style, good enemy variety for the length and stage are short enough that you can pick it up for a quick session. It's cheap and fun, give it a try.

In a word. Atrocious. I do like the comic art and while the character art is good the environment is "stale and sterile". On the first stage they recycle the same 2 characters repeatedly while throwing in a couple of odd balls here and there like the knee capping midget with a gun. I could not get invested in the story like I could with SoR4. The controls are terrible too... it takes 5 to 10 seconds after the stage loads for my character to even move around. I can punch and kick but can't move. Then it suddenly starts working. I am not sure if I am doing the moves right because sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. Game will "lock up on load". This happened the very first time I tried to play the tutorial so I said... okay lets try the main game. Well... the Story View went crazy but it let me "skip" so I did that. Phew... okay time to get into the game. When I first started the game there was no sound at all. A trip to the settings menu fixed that by checking Music/SFX box. The game is cheap so I won't request a refund in hopes the dev puts this through some better QA. O wait... it's over 3 years old. Guess that is not going to happen. Oh well... it's che…

Man.. I wanted to like this. But it's a pass from me. For one the controller issues are horrendous. Can't move when entering a stage, problems with interacting correctly in the menu.. Frustrating. The combat is ok, but the controller issues make this something I simply don't have the time for.
