Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader

I spent a lot of time in this game. While I enjoyed the DLC for Void Shadows (excellent story) and Lex Imperialis introduced some interesting mechanics, the game is a convoluted buggy mess and I'm tired of pretending like they don't exist simply because I WANT to like the game so much more than I actually do. I bought the game in hopes they would release a Midnight Isles procedural expansion where we can enjoy combat mechanics and test builds without the constant narrative loops being forced on us, but sadly, narrative loops and closed stories are the 'artistic' vision they pursued. The writers are called 'Owlmates' (I sh*t you not), and they consist of cosplayers, fanfic writers, streamers, and 'artists' who submit an application for corporate approval so they get early access to content before other gamers in exchange for their 'contributions'. Like a V.I.P. pass for some elite Digital Country Club. Any challenges to these people is met with a feral defensive ferocity that screams 'fragile pretentious ego' because they see it as an existential threat to their self appointed head-canon superiority. Very fun game, uses a pathfinder like system which I find to be a bit complex but, is much easier to get my head around compared to Pathfinder: WOTR (which is also a really good game from Owlcat Games). Combat is a lot of fun, especially with the addition of the new classes from the DLCs. Contains a ton of lore if you are a big 40K fan, doesn't require much pre-knowledge of the universe to enjoy though. My biggest gripe is the amount of loading screens. Don't get me wrong, they have improved the loading times with updates so no complaints there. But, some times you go somewhere, transition into a loading screen for a very short animation, read a single line of dialog just to end up in another loading screen for another short dialog in a different area and then finally another loading screen back to where you were before the scene. Gets bloody annoying and interrupts the flow of the game for me. However, for those who do not enjoy reading, it has ALOT of reading required for the story. I've put an ungodly amount of hours in this game, and I can easily put more. The setting is awesome. I was not a WH40k fan, but this game is so well made it really makes you feel like you're part of this universe. The characters are great, the main quest and subquests are unique and original. Some character quotes I remember from time to time - who can forget Argenta's "every strike is a prayer", while she's exploding some heretic's limbs with a bolter?? This game is not just like x-com. This is a full-fledged RPG, with lots of exploration and story between combats, so there's plenty to do, and enjoy. I'm normally not a big fan of preordering, but I got so hyped because of this game that I already bought into their next game, Dark Heresy.

Its very warhammer 40k. im no expert on the lore and only know a few basic things but seems to capture the atmosphere very well. a bit too depressive for my taste but it runs pretty decently. combat can take a bit, but there are enough busted builds on the internet if u wanna speed it up.
