Warmage: Prologue is a roguelite grid-based turn-based tactical combat game where you play as a young warmage tasked with defending his city against an unknown evil.

Features:

Play as 3 different archetypes with unique gameplay
Varied and refreshing tactical combat
After each battle, power up your warmage and buy various attacks and items
Choose your next mission on the city map carefully
Differents objectives for each battle
Over 45 spells and 38 items to combine to create the ultimate warmage

Fight

Use a wide variety of weapons and spells to defeat waves of ennemies in a turn by turn combat. Various ennemies will challenge you in different ways, think carefully about each movement and each attack as a single error can put you in perilous situations.

Upgrade

Use the gems collected during the fights to buy new spells, upgrade the ones you already have and buy new items. With each level gained, you can upgrade one of you primary caracteristic which will improve the power of your attacks.

Burn them all

Now that you have a deadly warmage with powerfull spells, defeat all whom will stand in your way !

Use your environment

The surroundings aren't just for show, they can be your greatest ally in escaping deadly situations. Learn to harness them to your advantage !

Defend your city

Your city is attacked by an unkown evil. You have to help the citizens, others warmages and important people to survive!

Recommended for fans of turn-based tactics and a good challenge. It still needs some work and polish but there is a fun game here. In the meantime you should check out Into the Breach, Chimera Squad, Wildermyth, Our Adventurer Guild, Fell Seal, Children of Zodiarcs, Tactics Ogre, or Gloomhaven, which are all better polished. +Variety of classes with different abilities +Choice of companion to complement skills +Atmosphere +Turn-based tactics battles +Variety of stat and skill upgrades +Some intuitive controls +Free demo -Barebones settings -No video/resolution options -Some untranslated buttons, text -Dialogue is not voiced -Lacking/unclear shortcuts -Some hotkeys don't work in tutorial -Some major balance issues -Softlock on Continue after tutorial, must start new game -No saving/ autosave only -Same color player/enemy icons in turn order -No meta progression / total restart on death -No difficulty options

"Warmage: Prologue" is is not a game. It's an advertisement for a product called "Warmage". Warmage is a garbage tier, objectively failed mobile app in exile, a crappy, contentless (the developer tried to use repetitive procgen algorithms as a substitute for doing the job of a game developer) roguelite (ugh) turn based tactical strategy game with a fantasy theme... a very weak "me too" entry through Steam Direct that was a complete and utter failure with only two concurrent players (and that only happened once... ouch). But this isn't completely relevant because this is not Warmage, it's just an advertisment for it, so it's not correct to try to review that completely distinct product. We must instead review this for what it is... an advertisement. If you enjoy advertisements, you can consume them for free on the web or on Youtube without needing to add them to your game library, download them, and then launch the advertising. It's impossible in a general sense to recommend people should do that over playing real, full games on Steam, and that applies here with "Warmage: Prologue" too.
