TLDR: The area leading up to the first town has more fully untranslated German than the end of a college textbook trying to teach you German. I'm not gonna lie, I'm really not sure if the people leaving the positive reviews played the same game I did just now? I saw another review say the latest update was extremely buggy and the discussion boards mention that one of the dialog answers is French and not German. I haven't played long but if this is really what the game is like I can't see myself playing for long. By "this" I mostly mean the astounding lack of attention to text in a CORE FEATURE of the game. The translations. Specifically the ability to mouse over things, and the grammar tab. When you mouse over underlined words, not all of them are translated. In fact, not all new words are even underlined. Sure, context clues exist but when you have a dictionary you want the player to fill out, usually your first interaction with a word, should probably put that word in your dictionary. Not only that but the grammar tab often doesn't define the word either. It also sometimes doesn't even give you complete information, just skipping over entire words in the sentence that are 100%…

I rarely review if ever but just dropped by to say this game was working fine until the recent update, now it's even more janky and buggy that before. It crashed for the first time, I get stuck in dialogues, the Xbox controller half-works. Missing info, placeholder text, task list will review uncompleted tasks that dont make sense because you havent been assigned them yet and so ruins the story-telling (e.g. one uncompleted task is to retrieve a lost item for a character but I'm pretty sure this character has not asked me to seek this lost item yet). After this new update it's a mess and I do not recommend. It's a shame because previously it worked quite well but until they fix these problems it's a no from me. Just pay for a tutor, chat with chatgpt or use some other app. No point gamifying language learning if the game doesn't work. When you fix it I'll change my review,

Nice game to learn German. You can talk and listen to practice, there is voice recognition. I also use some local LLM (KoboldCpp) on a second screen to help me understand certain words and sentences of the game.

Great for kids and adults alike. Fun, easy way to learn the language.

Amazing. Totally recommend for those that wanta to get a glimpse of German language.

I take the A1 test next week in Austria and I'm using this to help me hammer down understanding and speaking. I recently took a one month intensive course and while I learned a lot from that, this game is helping me to put my knowledge to the test. My only gripe to this is that it struggles to understand when I do the speaking bits. I don't know how that can be improved or if it's just that my mic sucks haha
