About Yearning: A Gay Story
Yearning: A Gay Story (YAGS for short) is a realistic coming-out-focused character-driven slice-of-life visual novel where you play as a gay man starting his freshman year of college at a generic university somewhere in the midwestern United States. The game features dating sim elements, but is not focused on them.
You will interact with a cast of characters, each with their own personality and stories, as you navigate college life, develop friendships, play board games, and come out. With luck, you might even find a boyfriend.

A world where you can befriend people and see events from different perspectives, depending on your decisions
4 dateable guys* with their own distinct stories, with good and bad endings for each guy (9 endings in all*)
230,000+ words and meaningful choices
Collectibles system to track and reward your decisions
Achievements, for completionists
Unlockable in-game character profiles
An original soundtrack featuring "Yearning", the YAGS theme
* Or are there?
Looking for more gay romance?
Zen: A Gay Sequel takes place after the end of YAGS, this time from Carlos' perspective!

I find this story so intruiging and relatable. I really enjoy this game because i like to imagine Adam to be Sam, i wish i could tell Sam my true feelings but i know he would probably freak out and hit me, maybe call me a slur. I wish Sam liked me back, but that will only happen in my dreams - which i think about quite a lot. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate Dan, he's super fat and i imagine him as Liam who i hate. Maybe i secretly do like Liam and i'm just in denial, i do like to imagine angrily forcing my tongue down his throat as we kiss, but it doesn't mean anything, right? Sam is the one for me, i know it, it can't be Liam... I hope no one i know sees this, but they probably won't care enough to stalk my steam...I should probably hope on minecraft...heh....2 found this helpful

played for 30 minutes only saw 1 ♥♥♥♥ L game.
I've only been playing the game for two hours, but I wanted to give a quick review. First of all I can't believe that this is a FREE GAME! I've paid for LGBTQ+ games that aren't even half as polished as this one. The only minor complaint I can think of at this time is the inability to cancel decisions that you regret. You basically have to go back to the last save point. My advice right now is to save frequently. I will comment again when I've finished the game! Great game so far with great dialog! Update after finishing first playthrough, and earning the new mode. Excellent game. I will definitely be checking out the sequel after this next playthrough.
No. Not even for free. I tried to play & record this for a vid in June 2025 for pride month but I got 40 mins in & I was so freakin bored with it, I knew it would not be worth finishing, editing & releasing to my viewers. I'm cleaning out old recordings (Dec 2025) & came across this one where, on the start of Aug 28th in the game, my last words of the 40 min recording were "I dunno, this is kinda borin'. I dont' think I like it." End recording LOL. It's basically reading text on a handful of boring, non animated backgrounds. The story has no depth nor eludes that it will pick up at any time. The character art was nice but this game did not jazz me up in any sort of way. As a connoisseur of Free to Play games, I think this was probably my least favorite so far.
