Zombies Attack

Pretty great take on the Rush'n Attack formula. Played through normal mode as the male and hard mode as the female in under two hours. Girl seems easier to plow through bosses with her big ole hammer, guy might be better for speed running with faster attack. Retro run and gun fans will love this.

Another banger from LLK Game, a severely underrated developer of retro style games (the excellent shmup Gana Blade, and Contra-like G Warrior) this time in the vein of Rush n Attack by way of a classic George Romero zombie epidemic. The only initial stumbling block for me was getting my controls mapped the first time around as with their other games. Aside from that it plays like a charmingly janky but tight NES/Famicom game you never realized existed. Once mastered through repeat play, I felt compelled to do challenge runs (speed, no death, etc) and will most likely return to it again and again, much like the classics that inspired it. Highly recommended, especially for the price.

Between this and g-warriors, I'm now a fan of LKK GAME. Looking forward to what the dev does next. Also game is good. Simple, clear and competent at what it wants to do. Well worth the 5 bucks.

Incredibly fun (yet challenging) retro platformer game, to play with a friend!

Ninja Gaiden and Contra by way of an Italian zombie movie. Tight controls that feel like top-tier, classic NES games. Difficult bosses but unlimited lives—the "score" is your time and lives spent. While I would love to see a more traditional scoring mode and credit/life system as options, by giving you unlimited lives, the game encourages you to keep playing and trying even when you're having a tough time. The checkpoint system is also very generous, and the stages themselves are short. All this contributes to a game encouraging mastery while not compromising on its challenging encounter design. The sprite art is very charming, the music is great, and there's a wonderful horror film atmosphere, inviting favorable comparisons to horror-themed games like Castlevania or Splatterhouse. Highly recommended.
