About Ground Zero

Ground Zero is a retro survival horror set in post-apocalyptic South Korea. A devastating meteor impact has wiped out South Korea. 2 months later as the dust and lightning storms settle and the air becomes breathable, an elite Korean operative and her Canadian partner are sent to investigate. What waits for them in the foggy remains is more terrifying than they ever could have imagined…
  • Fight terrifying monsters that lurk in the dark corners of Busan, mutated by the fallout of the impact.
  • Uncover the truth of what really hit Busan that day. What are these strange growths unravelling from the meteor impact, and why has it corrupted what little life remains in the aftermath?
  • Explore a beautiful city in ruins, from shoreline towns and temples to the urban center.
  • Defend yourself with an array of abilities; shoot, stab, kick and counter as an expert soldier trained in firearm and martial combat.
  • Perfect your fighting skills and get rewarded. Cleaner kills means more Genome Points, which can be traded for powerful gear upgrades.
  • Take on huge, terrifying bosses. Seo-Yeon has no idea just how bad the mutations can get in the heart of the city. Be prepared for anything.
  • Relive the spirit of classic Survival Horror. Ground Zero captures the nostalgia of retro horror titles with fixed cameras and pre-rendered backgrounds, puzzles, custom difficulty and optional tank controls.
  • Have fun with unlockables and extra content: alternate outfits, additional game modes and hidden endings await players curious enough to find them.

This is a love letter to the survival horror genre packaged with some modern sensibilities. It's got that retro/PS1 feel from the fixed camera angles and optional tank controls with options for modern controls and gameplay elements. My first playthrough clocked in around 15 hours - though there's an achievement for getting it under 8 hours. There's a lot of beat on the bone with multiple paths throughout the story, multiple endings, and the "Mercenaries" type of extra game available after beating it. If you enjoy survival horror games, pick this up and you'll enjoy it. Look forward to the developer's next project someday!

I'd recommend this to any survival horror fans. My only complaint is the inverse difficulty curve, the start of the game is I think "just right" but as you accumulate upgrades and get down the (very forgiving) parry/dodge timing you start realizing that the easiest and best weapon to use is your melee weapon. At that point you just snowball into never taking damage, so you can easily max out on triple syringes, you never use your gun so you accumulate tons of ammo, you get the most points for the shop from using a knife so you can easily afford everything. Overall a great game, but some of the mechanics mentioned above feel like they grind against each other instead of compliment each other. Getting the critical aimed attacks is (at least to me) harder and riskier than just stabbing something yet it also gives the least payout in terms of points.

If you like games with tank controls, old-school graphics, survival horror, and a female protagonist, this is the game for you. You won’t regret it. The devs made this game as a tribute to classic Resident Evil and Dino Crisis, and you can really feel the love and attention to detail.

While not perfect, it's a good homage to classic survival horror. Would recommend to any fans of the genre out there.
