✦ AI summary

Players praise Torchlight as an excellent and addictive Diablo-like dungeon crawler with charming visuals, satisfying combat, and a compelling loot loop that keeps you engaged for hours. Common complaints include balance issues with the final boss and late-game difficulty, along with occasional performance problems on some systems. Overall, it's seen as a surprisingly engaging casual action-RPG that holds up well despite its age.
Torchlight
This review comes from someone who has played many ARPGs but isn't a hardcore player or a completionist. Here are some of my thoughts. I played as a Destroyer on hard difficulty, using Berserker and Spectral skills.
Pros

Clear UI.
Can get pretty addictive.
Has all the mechanics and features you'd expect from an ARPG, although the systems themselves aren't particularly deep.
Large variety of skills. My only issue was that putting points into some skills (especially passive skills) didn't seem to make much of a difference. Depending on your level, some skills could also be quite over- or underpowered compared to your weapons. But this is very common in ARPGs.
Linear progression structure. The game has a straightforward progression structure, which makes it easy to know where you're supposed to go and what you're supposed to do next.
Graphics and animations. The game looks very nice considering how old it is. The animations are top notch.
Gear. Adding enchantments and gems to your weapons and equipment is fun and impactful. I also like how the shops …

The game is simple but gripping. It probably won’t last long, but it will definitely be enjoyable for 2–3 evenings.

This game was fun. It was a bit clunky, but still very enjoyable.

it holds up remarkably well all things considered (except ordak, wtf), but also honestly, just play Torchlight 2. *edit* now that i've played all 3 classes, 1 on normal another hard and the 3rd easy hardcore, my review stands even if saying "just play 2" is a bit dismissive. the classes manage to be distinct and very cool. i like the retirement system. it's also quite refreshing to have such a short game i can just hop into and play a bit at a time.
