About SpellForce 3 Reforced

✦ AI summary

Command armies and cast spells as a customizable hero in this seamless blend of RTS strategy and RPG progression set in a war-torn fantasy world. Uncover a 30+ hour story across three distinct factions while battling epic battles, recruiting diverse companions, and competing in robust multiplayer modes.

SpellForce 3 - The perfect blend between RTS and RPG!

It is the year 518. The rebellion of the renegade mages, known as the Mage Wars, has been quashed by the Crown. However, it was a Pyrrhic victory: Whole regions have fallen into anarchy, refugees roam the lands in search of shelter, and a mysterious, deadly plague called the “Bloodburn” has arisen and is spreading rapidly.

In times like these people cling to any sign of hope they can find. The Purity of Light, led by a charismatic man called Rondar Lacaine, claims that mages are the source of all misfortune – and that only the second coming of Aonir, the father of all gods, will return Eo to its former splendor.

The story takes place before the acclaimed SpellForce: The Order of Dawn.

Features:

  • Innovative Mix: Unique gameplay blending RTS and RPG naturally together
  • Create & Customize: Create your own hero and choose between distinct skill trees
  • Build to Fight: Raise your own army and fight epic mass battles
  • Epic Storyline: Immerse yourself in a rich world - Unravel the secrets behind the current situation in Nortander. Explore Eo, a fully-realized world filled with interesting characters and heart-wrenching stories.
  • Make new friends - assemble your party from a diverse cast of companions that not only complement your skills in interesting ways but also have an impact on the narrative. Manage their skills and equipment to ensure victory on the battlefield.
  • Choose your side: Strengthen and command one of three factions – Elves, Orcs and Humans. Prepare your troops and fight the mother of all battles. Play strategically, taking advantage of terrain, troop formations, visibility, scouting, etc.
  • Experience an epic tale: Enjoy a fully-voiced 30+ hour campaign on your own or with friends in the campaign coop mode. Face opponents of all skills in the online battles.
  • Multiplayer: Strong multiplayer component with various modes - Compete against each other in the PvP and Domination mode or play cooperative either together on one faction or classic where everybody plays a faction.

All you hear during the game is Tahar this, Tahar that... This game should have been called TaharForce or something. It's playable, but not enjoyable. A lot of missed opportunities and badly designed elements. Q: Would I recommend? A: Despite the "Thumb's Down", this game can still be somewhat enjoyable, especially in co-op. [+] 1) Almost fully VAed Some VA acting is... lame, though. 2) Standard story 3) Good performance 4) Good "reforged" graphics 5) Two-phased gameplay (strategy and RPG phases) The game has a strategy phase and an RPG phase. Like Warcraft, but much simpler. [-] 1) Woke Dwarf companion suddenly comes out as gay... Why?! Who thought that would be a good addition to the game/story?! 2) Unsophisticated, repetitive strategy phase The strategy phase of the game is lame and boring: no new structures, units, etc. You will not see anything new beyond your first strategy phase. 3) A lot of dialog The gameplay is frequently interrupted with a lot of dialog, story, etc. 4) The endgame is copy-paste Devs got lazy and just copy-pasted first locations to the endgame... 5) The RPG phase is also straight-forward You can get an ultimate skill at th…

It's just not fun. Too much stuff gets thrown at you, it instantly feels like feature creep was the main driver of this whole endeavor. The first minute of the campaign already introduces like 10 different mechanics, whereas in Skirmish I didn't really know what to do. Also, I was instantly bored by the generic looks of the game. I guess it can be fun if you're one those people who love having to really dig into a lot of systems before actually understanding a game. I'm not one of these people, I do like complexity, but I'm more into stuff that's easy to grasp but hard to master. If you're not like me, but the first type of people I described and you don't care about playing generic boring knight guys, this might be a thumbs up for you!
