SpellForce 3 Versus Edition

The next best thing after the WC3 rework failure. Economy like northguard. Military and heroes like WC3. Cant believe not more ppl are playing this. Since the game doesnt have a good (or any) tutorial i highly recommend joining the discord channel, the people there are friendly and have resources to help u understand the game. based on the comments i figured i would elaborate some of my points: - is WC3 better? Yes, if graphics are none of your concern. This one is ALOT prettyer then old WC3 though (and also then that rework, which is crazy ugly) The reason for this is that the game is bug/issue free, and more balanced. With some updates this game might surpass it, but right now it does not. That said, its something new, has a ton of content (6 factions) and is very unexplored strategy wise. - Gameplay comparison: Economy is more streamlined and automatical, so there is less to do with workers. You only have 1 hero, with about 50% more abilitys (average 6). There are no mechanics for "surrounding" a hero/unit, (for better or worse) Mapcontrol is more important (though faction dependent) - How you actually play it: This game is much more relaxed, theres no "blademaster in your …

Age of Empires with magic! 10/10! Steep learning curve but so much fun! The ai is very smart though.

Surprisingly good game. Story is interesting, voice acting is good, gameplay allows for good variety so stays compelling for a while. Overall just fun to play.

There are some things I really like about this game, but the two that are really well done are the Aesthetics and Spells. The artists, designers, modelers, etc. from Grimlore did an absolutely incredible job with this game. That being said, I've started and left this game twice now, and I've tried putting my finger on why I've done that. I realized what it is, and it's that this game doesn't know what it wants to be. SF3 tries to be, in theory, a spiritual successor to Warcraft 3 with a heavy story and RTS gameplay. That being said, what it actually does is have a CRPG-esc story with CPRG party gameplay (think Pillars of Eternity or OG Baldur's Gate 1 and 2) whilst sprinkling very half-baked RTS gameplay occasionally. Where Warcraft 3 succeeded implementing heroes and armies across asymmetric factions, SF3 focuses so heavily on RPG mechanics that your armies feel boring and symmetric across factions minus their - again - beautiful aesthetics. If you're an RTS veteran like me who also loves CRPG's, this is very clear when playing this game. Honestly, this game should have been a CRPG like Pillars of Eternity. Really amazed how good this game is. I'm having a lot of fun with it! The different factions all operate differently and there are just a lot of cool mechanics and all to it! I do recommend this to anyone into the RPG-RTS hybrid type game. Very well done!

It's a great blend of RPG and RTS. The missions are definitely challenging, but if you learn to play the game well, it's very rewarding. I have to say I really like the story. It's like a blend of Baldur's Gate and Warcraft.
