OK so... Most of what I have to say is spoilers.
They really had me in the first half. I was honestly worried the whole game was just going to be "military bad" and "secret plot from earth" but no they did it, they subverted my expectations and threw in a really sick twist. Kept me going. Also: I am 7 hours in, beaten Sector 12, having never delivered anything to anyone. It's all for me. :) Now I am here doing a Interstellar travel into System 02, I guess we'll see at what point I give up. Maybe I just had really good RNG with the upgrades? Either way, looking forward to continuing. I was genuinely thinking it would end after Sector 12. Now I can just continue forever it seems and quit only when I have a full tech tree I guess. That does give me a decent opportunity to deliver at least once I guess to get a bunch of research points. Also no idea what the number is next to my clickaxe, the green one, it kept counting down, not sure how important that is.
I would say to those of you who start out and shake your head at the plot try to push through a bit. Anyone who's saying "the mechanics don't change, the game is the same all the way through" is lying to you, t…1 found this helpful
yeah its not bad
Orebits is a really fun and addictive game that is very easy to get into. The gameplay is simple at first, but it becomes more and more satisfying as you unlock new upgrades, tools and ways to destroy the asteroids. You really feel the progression and it is one of those games where you constantly think: just one more upgrade. The combination of mining, upgrades and permanent progression works really well and the game also looks very polished. The artwork, effects and UI all fit together nicely and you can clearly see that a lot of attention went into the details. It is a simple concept, but executed very well. If you like incremental games and watching everything slowly become bigger, faster and more chaotic, Orebits is definitely worth checking out.
(For reference, I played about 30 hours of 1.0, and so far have logged another 13 on 1.1.) Orebits has some frustrating points, but when it's firing on all cylinders, it's great. Watching the chaos on-screen while your gear blasts through a level is VERY satisfying. Seeing how crazy everything gets visually is a big part of why I play this type of game, and the production values here are extremely high. Even the voice acting, which I wouldn't even expect to find in a game like this, is top-notch. If anything, I think some effects may be too subtle, but that's a matter of taste. Upgrade progression generally feels good, especially with the changes in 1.1. You unlock new upgrades at a reasonable clip, so you're always working toward something. I never felt Orebits to be overly grindy, but I also mostly ignored the "prestige" system. In my first playthrough, I delivered to Earth only once, when I got to Sector 8, and in my second (1.1) playthrough, I didn't deliver to Earth at all. I did use Research, but I was getting enough points from Upgrades and Anomalies that I mostly didn't need or want to start over. As a result, Orebits didn't really feel "incremental," at least in the w…
Nice fun game, yes it gets grindy and repeatative, but find me an incremental game that isn't? Good fun, great updates, had a bug that bricked my savegame. Made a discussion post about it, was asked to step into Discord, I provided the Dev with some vidoes and save files. And BOOM! Fixed overnight! Great service from a small dev!! Highly recommend the game and the dev!
Fairly straightforward concept, but some decent depth to the game. Overall an enjoyable "oh just one more run" type of game.
