✦ AI summary

Axiom Verge 2 is a unique and ambitious metroidvania sequel that impresses players with its exploration, movement mechanics, beautiful pixel art, and excellent soundtrack, but divides the community with its significant departure from the original game's combat system and mixed level design that can leave some players unsure where to progress. While admirers praise its scale, creative abilities, and immersive sim elements as standout achievements by a solo developer, detractors feel it represents a regression compared to the first game and struggle to connect with its story and characters.

If not for those last few items behind foreground walls, then this game would be a 10/10. I know I usually write something funny in my reviews but this game is just really cool. It is so unique within the genre of metroidvania, even having some immersive sim elements. I can't stress enough how excited I am for the next game.

I feel kinda mixed in some things but overall as a game it is quite good, though in some parts it feels it has regressed from Axiom Verge 1 ( i know comparison is the thief of joy but it is impossible to not have it in mind when the reason i decided to give the game a second chance was because i replayed the first) First i will start with what i loved and that is the gameplay it is certainly a separate thing from the first as it isn't long range combat anymore or mostly, but you get used to it and when it comes to movement this just feels soooo much better specially the drone and some other parts you unlock later In the metroidvania sense oh god tomm happs is crazy this has probably 2x or 3x the rooms of the first with a lot of neat surprises i have some gripes with the early zones but afterthat it is hard to not feel like you do a bunch of progress (to be fair i needed 1 or 2 more walkthrough peeks than in the first game) so in that regards the game is really good maybe it doesn't have quite the ambience of the first but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is it enjoyable now come my main gripes and more than anything is the presentation where some Axiom Verge 1 features were gutted, remember those portrai…

I would rate this game 7,5. Exploring and abilities/upgrades are pretty nice. But I could not get into the story because i could not really connect with the characters. And sometimes you feel really lost in the world and it's unclear what to do next. If you start exploring on yourself it feels unrewarding because you often hit spots where you just can't continue yet. So after a while it starts to get a bit boring. After completing the game i only had 60% of items and 87% of map. But with this game i didnt have the feeling to explore the rest of the map and items. And thats a sign that the game just didn't really do it for me because with a real good game i want to 100% it. But respect for the developer. It's incredible this game is made by only 1 person.

One of those sequels where, after playing for 1 hour, you start asking: "What happened?" and have to check if the devs (dev, in this case) changed between games. Then, you play more and have to double-check... was it really the same people? I wasnt going to give an indie game a negative review, but the more I played it, the less I liked it. If it were something like "Axiom Verge: [SPIN-OFF]" or "[Game title] from the Axiom Verse universe", that would be a different thing, but as a sequel it's... practically insulting. Similar to, let's say Darkest Dungeon 2 or Salt and Sacrifice, Axiom Verge 2 is a "sequel" inferior in every single aspect. I really don't get it.

I loved Axiom Verge. The sequel is different from the first game for sure, especially combat wise. More melee focused and probably the weakest part of the game. However, exploration and the abilities you use to explore are fantastic. The pixel art is beautiful. The OST is insanely good. The sound effects deserve a mention too because they are excellent.

I prefer the first Axiom Verge. That being said, this one's really, reaally cool and is arguably better than the first game. Both games are the Metroidvanias I've enjoyed the most since the original Super Metroid back in the mid 90s.
