Tormented Souls 2

Tormented Souls 2 has beautiful visuals, great atmosphere and music. The puzzles are probably the best I've seen in a game of this type. It also has absolutely horrendous combat mechanics that made the game unplayable for me. The first game had some serious issues with its combat too, but at least they were never egregious enough to ruin the experience as a whole. In this more action-heavy sequel the bad parts are much more difficult to simply power through in order to get to the next awesome puzzle sequence. These issues are especially frustrating in a survival horror game where you're supposed to be mindful of your limited resources. Enemy animations are generally inconsistent and difficult to read, and certain enemy attacks even seem to grant the monsters invincibility frames. A ghost lunging straight through a spinning chainsaw simply makes the weapon disappear from Caroline's hands. Your character's attack animations, on the other hand, have cooldowns during which you can neither evade incoming damage nor attack again. 8/10. Loved the first game, and the sequel delivers in every way you would expect. I do wish you could dodge outside of combat stance, but other than that, the game is absolutely worth a survival horror fan's time.

Consider this a thumbs up with a big ol' asterisk attached to it. Tormented Souls 2 will definitely scratch the survival horror itch for Resident Evil/Silent Hill fans, especially those who miss the heyday of fixed camera angles and complex puzzles. Other elements like the environments and horror atmosphere also hold up pretty well. However, for every thing about TS2 that I liked, it seemed like there was at least 2-3 other things I *didn't* like. The combat is serviceable, but there are some enemies whose attacks are such utter BS (mostly the boss fights) that I legitimately wonder if the devs bothered to playtest the game at all. The game's story also lost me pretty quick. It starts out simple enough with protagonist Carole Walker needing to save her younger sister, but then later on they fold in weird cults and time travel and hidden experiments and some "destined one" nonsense and it becomes a muddled mess. Fantastic vintage survival Horror, If you blended Resident Evil 1 Remastered and original Alone in the Dark with a sprinkle of Silent Hill you'd have a very good feel for what this offers. Great old school gameplay style with beautiful 3d environments. Modern graphics , classic gameplay. also alotta Carney run away thru a load door to safety moments.
