Alright. [i]Cavernreach[/i] is done and dusted. This is a pretty traditional story driven walking sim with some lite traversal puzzles and a splash of platforming. With that as the story backdrop, you dive further and further into this cave system, both trying to map out these mostly virgin caves while also trying to find the lost cavers. However, as you progress, a new mystery reveals itself. Turns out, the First Nations People had been aware of these caves and interacted with them in the past. And a group of miners had also plunged into its depths about eighty years earlier. I played the demo and wanted to see what happened next. The story kept me wanting to see where it all led to. I'll say that I was pleased with this game and the story. It was neat and a somewhat fresh take for story driven games, and I didn't expect the ending at all. The integration of the different mechanics was cool. Instead of just walking around everywhere, I was happy there was the diving mechanic. While it doesn't have a first person character to see, I don't feel it took anything away from the gameplay. After all, I think the developer wanted to create a cool story over fancy extras. And I will say that in my opinion they succeeded. It's not flashy compared to other more high end games, and some parts you might get a little lost, but to me that's the point. It is an unexplored cave after all. There's not really any handholding down there, which makes you think a lot kinda like some older games, which I found refreshing. The environment had some neat parts where it got a little freaky. Great game so far. I'm really enjoying the story. It's different, but good. Some things have changed since I played the demo last, but it seems the developer improved on their vision for the game. My only complaint is the save system. The game saves automatically, and some of the save points are kind of far apart in the story. So if you stop playing between save points you have to pick up where you left off at the past save point and do some replay. Overall, I think it's well worth the money the dev is charging. I haven't made it to the end yet, but I look forward to it. There was also a few creepy parts added in, if you get scared super easy. But so far no jump scares. No bugs so far.
