Book of Travels

As the the online servers sunsets, I would say that this game has been one of the most unique games I've seen thus far. It was whimsical and brings a certain allure that Ive never felt with other games, I didnt play much of it as It wasnt complete when I started on it. But as we have reached the end of it's life cycle, even though it was never completed and likely never will be, I still hope that someday someone somewhere will pick it back up again. The world was built with such love and creativity but the game as a whole was not executed to a degree that it deserved. I will not recommend it as this is an incomplete game, patch wise, it's still stuck in it's early access phase, Episode 0, the beginning, there are incomplete maps, features as well as bugs. I cannot under good conscience recommended it. At this point, its a nice walking simulator from the artwork and the music to the leisurely, depsite minimal, travelling merchant simulation gameplay loop. The servers have been shutdown so no longer will there be random encounters with strangers on the net, which was a big part of the experience imo. For the current price of $7 AUD, its not bad but knowing that its an abandoned game …

I saw this game on sale and bought it with no idea what it was. I didn't know it had been intended to be a TMO. I didn't know it had essentially been abandoned in early access. At first I enjoyed it, I made my character, I did some exploring, I got some new gear, I did a few quests... and then nothing. That seems to be it. I've played 38 hours and 37 of that was just wandering around. There doesn't seem to be a story line. There doesn't seem to be any activities or goals. There doesn't seem to be any combat despite weapons and armour (I even walked around what was described as "the most dangerous area in the game at night" and nothing, no enemies in sight. Essentially what this is is a really beautiful environment but no game. Which is really disappointing because it has so much potential, but it's exceedingly clear it's been abandoned very early in the process.

i have 7 hrs in this game, i spent 30 dollars when it first came out and just read that they shut down the game. how disappointing that the fact i spent that much on a game and it be shut down after just 5 years. ive been waiting for years for updates and nothing. its such a beautiful game and had some much potential. sad to see it go. i never could figure out any of the controls or how to use them or what to do. i think that was the main issue with this game.

At this point it's just a chill and beautiful exploration game, if somewhat buggy and unfinished. Still, if the art style speaks to you, it might be worth the price of entry, especially on a sale.
