Prey

Probably the best game Arkane ever made, and a high water mark for the immersive sim genre even if it's a decade old. Explore a space station (inside, outside, crawl spaces, everywhere), be a loot goblin and scavenge everything that's not bolted to the floor, inject skill points directly into your brain, and spend a lot of time thinking about the trolley dilemma. It's Deus Ex in space, it's BioShock but not arcadey, it's System Shock 3 in all but name.

Beautiful graphics: architecture is lovely, and design is crisp and full of variety. Excellent play dynamics on PC. Responsive and manageable controls, even once you are free-floating outside the space station. Good weird story line that develops gradually. Like with Bioshock, HalfLife, etc., it's good to play multiple times once you get to know how to acquire resources and find things. The wandering doctor and other useful robots are a nice change from fixed-location charge-up areas. The goo-gun as climbing-method is a clever idea. As the game/story develops, the environment becomes more open-world - you can revisit areas as needed or wanted. The soundtrack is new and delicate and unusual and provides a strange future-y atmosphere. So many great touches, like the anti-grav lifts. The baddies are original too, fluid and unpredictable (until you get used to them). Puzzles are ok; not too challenging. There are some go-fetch tasks that are a little tedious, but the whole game is worth it. As an FPS, it's not too heavy on the shooting. An amazing atmosphere with a story you can delve into. The gameplay allows for multiple ways to explore Talos 1 and interact with characters. Knowing how the game ends doesn't take away from the replayability, it in fact, enhances it. You'll want to play the game differently each time, every time getting a different ending. Truly worth a play or five, highly recommend it.
