About Ash of Gods: Redemption

✦ AI summary

Ash of Gods is a turn-based tactical RPG where you command multiple protagonists through a branching story where permanent deaths reshape the narrative and your journey continues regardless of who falls. Combat blends card-driven abilities with skill-based tactics—no dice rolls, just pure strategy against an AI that adapts to your playstyle and punishes repetitive builds.

Ash of Gods: Redemption is a turn-based RPG that combines tactical combat, CCG elements, and a constantly evolving story in which no one is safe from death, including the main characters.

✦ AI summary

Ash of Gods: Redemption draws inspiration from The Banner Saga with its grim fantasy aesthetic, turn-based combat, and melancholic tone, earning praise from players who appreciated the emotional narrative journey and stellar soundtrack. However, players consistently note poor English translation, limited actual consequences to dialogue choices despite branching options, and a story that spreads wide rather than deep—resulting in a game that falls short of its spiritual predecessor despite having its own identity.

I will just say this. If you want an emotional tour-de-force journey equivalent to that of the fellowship of the ring, play this game! The bad translation was never an issue for me, even if some sentences did not make perfect sense. I was in awe at the end of the game, I felt like I really experienced a monumental journey!

A poor mans banner saga, that did not get the balance of banner saga.

Falls *just* short of a truly great game, but can't stick the landing. Still worth a play, for sure. Very reminiscent of Banner Saga, both in art and combat, but still has its own identity. Much more of a "grim fantasy" setting, like Witcher, and has likewise stellar soundtrack (in part, from the same source). Despite nearly static poses in the visual novel sections (which are about half the game), the art allows a great variety of recognizable characters that strongly convey their personalities. Game is much more sprawling in narrative and options than BSaga, which I appreciated, but it does build wide, rather than tall. There are lot of variations in who survives to the ending (and how the ending plays out), but I would've preferred having a little more depth to the party members, who often have a few chats or interactions (often interesting), only to fall silent for the vast majority of the game while the three protags do their thing. On that front, the three-part narrative was engaging; if Thorn's "cranky old man" schtick get tiresome (as it did for me), then next chapter, you get the refreshing control of Lo Pheng, who could have easily come across as an edgelord, but inste…

great game

If you liked The Banner Saga, you will most likely like this game as well. While many say it is a copy there are a few things that make it distinct, primarily the story. But the game does have a few issues. Not sure the langauge of the devs, but the script in english is often bad, weird, or poorly written. Frequently it will have 3 question options and then an exit, it seems clear that the intention is to ask them top to bottom as if you ask them out of that order they will frequently mention something that is only discovered in the above question. This means you only have the illusion of choice. Additionally, most of the choices seemed to have little to no effect, the primary effect seems to just be the morale mechanic which barely effects anything (at least on the lower difficulties, unsure if it changes in the higher difficulties). On top of this, many times they will repeat pieces of text they've said in the previous sentence (an example of what it's like "Gleda, you will be in danger... Gleda"). A scene is seemingly missing when the twins are insinuated to have betrayed you (which also felt very out of nowhere). There is no mention of their betrayal at any point in the…
