Short version of this comment: It's good. Real good. "Making me talk about it until everyone is bored and now believes I have some mental issues" level good. It's an absolute narrative masterpiece. Here's the long version: The Thaumaturge feels like a personal attack on my free time. I already love this company, and them creating a dark, turn-based historical RPG set in 1905 Warsaw is just tailoring a game directly to my soul. It enables all my worst habits: I spent hours meticulously analyzing political conspiracies and engaging in deep tactical combat - only to completely throw all my grand planning out the window because I got distracted by Wiktor’s magnificent coat physics and making sure he looks cooler than everyone else in Poland. As I said, an absolute narrative masterpiece. The atmosphere is incredibly thick, the story drops you into heavy moral gray areas and taming massive, terrifying folklore demons just to punch regular street thugs into oblivion never gets old. (Why? I dunno. Is it fun? Absolutely!). Really good game, really high quality.
Polish Persona is fun but my gosh the main character is such a bundle of sticks.
It is an AA-game, with all the jank that comes with it. It doesn't have the best graphics, and it was made with UE5 that brings with it its own problems. The gameplay isn't always that interesting and you have to run around the same few maps. But it has the absolutely best story I've ever encountered in any game. The setting is unique, the writing is top notch, the voice actors of Wiktor and Rasputin are very good. I enjoyed ever moment of it, and I'm going to replay it, with different choices, just to see how the story changes. I'm not a big fan of turn based combat, but I liked it in this game. It is not very difficult once you understand the system. Definitely get this one from sale if you are hesitant, it is worth it.
