Anyone unfamiliar with Asterix & Obelix missed out on a childhood spent in front of the TV or console. The game captures a fantastic sense of nostalgia. The story is clear and easy to follow. The gameplay is great; you brawl your way through the chapters, gradually utilizing newly acquired abilities that you have to purchase. It is incredibly satisfying to wipe out hundreds of enemies using these abilities. The game gets progressively more challenging from level to level; you’ll often get taken out, especially on the higher difficulty settings. The Ultra HD graphics are razor-sharp and beautiful. The levels are all designed with great attention to detail. Switching back to the original graphics works seamlessly. The sound and voice acting are solid, and the music is pure nostalgia. Some of the achievements are very challenging and require many attempts. You also have to play through the game on Normal or Hard first to unlock Extreme mode. I don't have any nostalgia for this game. Unfortunately It does still feel like a 3d platformer that came out in the early 2000s. There's not enough freedom with the camera. It feels very restrictive. I don't like how the game automatically switches characters. It just feels off to me. I failed the first challenge and barely had 60% of what the game was asking. Tried it again and again but not even close to fill the requirement.

Asterix & Obelix XXL: Romastered is a simple and enjoyable game that will mostly appeal to Asterix fans and people who played the original. You travel through different locations, switch between Asterix and Obelix, collect items, and constantly send groups of Romans flying. The combat is fun at first, but it starts to feel repetitive after a while. There are plenty of enemies, although most of them are defeated in roughly the same way. The platforming sections and camera can also feel outdated, and the controls are sometimes a little awkward. The graphics were noticeably improved in the remaster, but the age of the original game can still be seen in the animations and level design. The option to switch back to the old graphics is a nice feature for anyone looking for some nostalgia. Overall, it’s a decent game for a few evenings. There’s nothing outstanding about it, but it captures the atmosphere of the cartoons and comics well, and beating up crowds of Romans is still fun. whoever decided that breaking approximately 7 billion boxes in a straight line should be a meaningful challenge needs to be stopped. I know the whole point is collecting helmets & laurels, but after a while I'm just holding a button and destroying endless identical boxes. It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ boring. The additional challenges could've been a great reason to replay the game, but instead a lot of them feel like padding. Having to manually go all the way back just to retry something makes experimenting feel like a chore rather than a challenge.
