✦ AI summary

The Council is a story-driven mystery game with a compelling opening that hooks players through its historical setting, character interactions, and innovative dialogue-based puzzle system, but it suffers from a significant tonal shift toward religious themes in later episodes, along with mounting bugs and pacing issues that cause many players to lose interest despite strong early episodes.

this game was well worth 15 bucks that i paid for it. I went in totally blind on an 8yr old game and it didn't dissapoint. The story kept me invested throughout. Wish i could've been Han though... #IYKYK

This might be too harsh but I've tried to play this game twice on two different days. I swear, BOTH times I caught myself sleeping on a chair with a gamepad in my hand like a peasant, that's how eventful this game is. There's not a single part of my organism that wants to hit that PLAY button of this game again. I think the biggest issue is how ♥♥♥♥ the main character looks and the general aesthetic, there's just something terribly unattractive about it.
1/10
I love this game, the story, the characters, the puzzles, the atmosphere, the setting and the significance of the decisions. But because of the significance of those decisions and the plethora of endings and different circumstances that can arise, this game desperately needs a timeline system like that of Zero Escape. Without it, experiencing the entire game is extremely tedious and difficult

SUCH A HIDDEN GEM!!! I didnt believe people when they said this but TRUST and give it a chance. It is fun and unique in many ways. My main gripe however was defeating the main villain took LITERALLY LIKE 30 SECONDS. and then the game just ended...?! I'm really confused about that. It was the most rushed thing ever. But I still had fun!

[spoilers] The Council starts out as a genuinely intriguing historical mystery. I started with the first free chapter and was really hooked so I bought the rest. The first three episodes are easily the highlight - navigating political intrigue, investigating the island, and chatting with figures like Napoleon and Washington felt fresh, and turning dialogue and observation into the core "combat" system is a great concept. The sequence where you follow and reconstruct Lord Holm’s memories was also visually fantastic and fit the narrative perfectly. Unfortunately, the game loses its identity. It sets itself up as a grounded historical mystery, but then pivots hard into heavy biblical themes, demons, and possessions. The middle act gets bogged down in dry, conventional religious tropes, and if it wanted to go full supernatural, it should have committed to that vibe from the start instead of getting stuck in the mud. The social mechanics also feel underutilized - if I put points into Science or Detective skills, why can't I actually conduct proper interrogations or use basic forensic methods? Choices matter to a point, but characters rarely react to your decisions in a lasting way; som…

I came into the game with high hopes. The first act was amazing! However, after the first two Episodes which I liked and would recommend, it really changes for the worst. There are more and more bugs and litte issues in the gameplay and graphics department, the story takes a turn for the worse, it just lost me the longer I played it. The game literally felt like the meme. "They had us in the first half, not gonna lie". I was planning to play the story once and then revisit major plot points to experience the other decisions i couldn't make. But after about 75% of the story, I just quit playing.
