martinaise is basically a pile of rubble, bare concrete apartment blocks that haven’t seen new paint in what feels like centuries, the abject poverty and disrepair on every corner, a place where hope gets mugged out back for the $11 in its pockets, except that’s not how i felt at all playing it disco elysium is a tale of people first, second, third, and detective story fourth; you are witnessing people the entire game, listening to their stories, their fears, but also the stubborn ways they survive and hope, in a world that crushed them, to live for their humanity someway or another most importantly, it dumps cold water on YOU first, you start off as an absolute mess, but you change, stumble in the dark, find your identity in the trash heap, grow as a complete human even when nobody is looking at you or praising you, develop ‘complex’ political opinions, all to dodge the adorably human pain of life as a human being highly recommended!
I can't even bring myself to not recommend this here, despite the horrible things the original devs went through. This may be the greatest game in the entire point-&-click genre, to be honest. It fundamentally changed me as a person. You would never believe this was made by humans. ZA/UM is a grim reminder that the horrors and abject injustice depicted in this visual novel mirror our everyday lives. If you create a masterpiece, it won't be yours for long. Greed has no respect for the foundations of society or art. Please get this game elsewhere. Don't open your wallet for these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

an absolutely brilliant game, a peerless literary and artistic accomplishment. and a shameful tragedy what zaum did to the creators. i will be foregoing no parades as i patiently await the true successor from the minds of the real creators--kurvitz and rostov!!!!
