War on Folvos

Good simple turn-based combat, like the DOS days. Needs HUD scaling though.

"War on Folvos" is an ancient game from 2006. It's a whopping 18 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge, or just a cash grab to try profit from abandonware. It was an old school turn based tactical wargame with a science fiction theme. There's certainly a niche for wargames, but "War on Folvos" was not the game to fill it, mostly due to B- tier quality even compared to other games from 2006. Apart from being really dated, there's also some other technical issues that will probably dissuade gamers from being involved in this 18 year old game (old enough to vote!) From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. Is it a good game ? No Sound design ? Meh Good Level design ? No Good story ? No A good turn based game ? No. But its nostalgic and some missions do make you feel overwhelmed with the amount of units comming at you. Its balanced decently.
