Alright. [i]SCP - The Mystery Man[/i] is done and dusted. This is a very interesting game which has you leaving the game to research things online as a core gameplay mechanic. It's also developed by someone who clearly loves all things SCP and science related. To that end however, you are led through the investigation by several people who, willingly or not, give you puzzle after puzzle which will need to be solved to advance the story. There are technically four investigations that make up the whole of the actual story, which are tied together in very clever ways. Each investigation is named after a key protagonist who needs or wants your help. Ultimately, regardless of their specific circumstances, they're really all looking for the same thing: The Mystery Man. Lucky me gets to be the first to review "SCP - The Mystery Man", a game which hasn't been reviewed by anyone despite being out for a year. Why was this ignored by almost everyone on Steam? Well, the reasons are good ones. Let's get into it. SCP - The Mystery Man is difficult to describe as a modern PC game at all... this is basically a browser game, a bunch of static images, text, and lightweight menus you click through. The "game", if it can be called that, is just a simple set of quiz puzzles and riddles. You're given some text clues, maybe a picture, and you guess at an answer, then proceed to the next. The subject matter? The developers creatively didn't come up with anything of their own and just ripped off the public domain "SCP" weird creature/X-Files meme stuff from the internet. What a surprise when developers incapable of any kind of sophisticated PC game development aren't all that creative either. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. I really like the demo I played a year ago and I remembered that the game came out during the sale and I went and played it together with my friends and we had a good time together of trying to figure out what we need to do and what to search for. Im not sure if im done after getting to the ending or if there are more that I didn't know about but this was a fun time and would like to see more if it's possible. Seeing how this is burried under a lot of other games is what makes it a true hidden gem that loves to solve puzzles.
