XIII - Classic

A very fun game, that has aged quite well, with simple yet quite challenging gameplay, and an interesting story. This game has quite a distinct charm to it, with a very nice look. I will admit the checkpoint system can be incredibly unfair and unfun at times, causing me to have to replay rather large sections, but other than that I have no major complaints. Something I definitely suggest checking out.

A first-person shooter where you play as a mysterious commando, set to a dynamic noir-inspired soundtrack, a joy to play again and again. One of the most iconic cel-shaded games of its generation, reminiscent of comic books XIII. A game with a good story that can be completed in under 10 hours. Don't waste your time playing the remake; the best version is still the one developed by Ubisoft Paris.

I played this game on my XBOX (2002), and had a lot of fun with it. I read that the remake was bad, so I went for the classic port of the game. It works very well! I mostly played the storyline, so I'll talk about that in my review. The missions have diverse enough goals, equipment and different approaches that each one feels unique. The storyline is interesting - slowly discovering who is involved in a conspiracy and diving into the rabbit hole of the operation behind it kept me invested. The graphics are fun. The comic-style text- and image boxes work well with the environment of a fast-paced, somewhat stealthy shooter. If you want to play a simple, yet fun game for about 10 hours, you might enjoy XIII too!

CLASSIC BANGER

They just don't make them like this anymore. There is such a tactile feeling to hit and shot that is almost counter productive to a comic book aesthetic but the overall charm and glamour of the game pull everything into a neat little package. Every scene, every battle, every kill cam is made with so much love for the source material and comics as a whole you will feel empty once you remember this is the only game great enough to be this way.
