Messy, buggy and frustrating. The best thing about it is its atmosphere. Cosmic horror is a theme that is sorely lacking in video games, and it's an amazing setting for a Souls-like game. Unfortunately, everything else is disappointing. Combat can be too easily exploited and the maps are too big for what they have to offer, making exploration slow and frustrating. The biggest source of frustration has to be the fact that you cannot freely fast travel between Breaches (this game's equivalent of bonefires) without using a very rare resource. This makes returning to previous areas a massive chore, as you will always have to manually walk through the level again. Also the overreliance on platforming, coupled with dubious controls, makes this even worse. You will die more often to gravity than any enemy. While following a main NPC's quest, the NPC kept bugging out, adding an unnecessary and constant layer of frustration throughout. As for the "Blue Sun" DLC, it's a much better overall experience. Honestly a solid indie soulslike, and thats ridiculously hard praise to get--they usually have minimum budgets of $2 million plus! The highlight is the level design, there are solid vistas, sci fi concepts, and general uniqueness of the space station meshes. Reminds me a lot of the Mass Effect citadel! There's some jank, and the UI is generally crusty and strange, plus the use of Enter for all prompts, but NOT NUMPAD ENTER, forces you to abandon the mouse every time. Gamepad support is acceptable, but not for free-aim shooting the guns. And, for the love of all that is good and holy, make the camera look over the shoulder while aiming a gun, you cant see through your own ass to see what youre targeting, makes any ranged attacks impossible!

I really liked the theme and the gameplay overall. However the map is very very confusing to an annoying degree. Also the 2 of the last couple bosses are a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mess. I don't have the dlc. Just played the base game.

I installed this game. 19 grueling hours went by somehow. And I realized I still haven't gotten an inkling of fun, so why am I playing this? In short: "The game looks good but plays like ♥♥♥♥." - an angry gamer I admit some locations and the environment were very pleasant to look at (although some of the UI looks like low-effort barebone ass), but there's just one miniscule problem: getting there. Getting there means fighting a lot. Fighting a lot means experiencing the horrible gameplay mechanics this game for some reason decided to stick to, and a lot of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ from yours truly, to you. To list some: If you want to change the difficulty, whether it is up or down, you'll have to find a specific item for each of those actions. Problem is, it's a random drop, and it never ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ drops. So if you wanted to experiment with already cleared sections, but on a higher difficulty, to either have some "fun" or farm some resources, once you want to progress further back, you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥. The gameplay experience then becomes a devastating entropy to your psyche, unless the gods (RNG) mercifully give you the chance to escape this torment. And also, I haven't found a…
