About The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales

✦ AI summary

You're a disgraced writer stealing legendary artifacts from literary worlds, jumping between book realms with wildly different rules and meeting their inhabitants as you manipulate reality with the power of ink. This narrative heist game blends puzzle-solving, stealth, and story-reshaping across imaginative settings, all while guided by a sentient page who becomes your crime-committing companion.

Steal legendary artifacts to regain your freedom

Etienne Quist, a once-acclaimed writer, loses his ability to write after he is found guilty of an unspeakable crime. In an attempt to reclaim his lost status, he is approached by a criminal boss with a cunning offer. All he needs to do is locate and steal a series of legendary items from books. Delve into remarkable book worlds, each with its unique rules and challenges. Should anyone stand between you and the artifacts, be prepared to persuade, deceive, or even engage them in combat.

Explore different books and reshape their stories

Each quest thrusts you into an entirely new world: medieval prison, snow-capped mountain, futuristic spaceship and more. Meet the inhabitants of each book and use them to achieve your goals — after all, they are not really alive... or are they? In your quest, you will not be alone, as your paths cross with a sentient caged page, whom you adopt as your partner-in-crime and trusted advisor.

Solve unconventional puzzles across fiction and reality

Test your ingenuity with unique puzzles that encourage thinking outside the box, as you freely travel between fiction and reality, gathering valuable items to overcome obstacles. Using the mystical power of ink, you can manipulate objects within the books, adding depth to your interactions and unlocking new paths to explore.

It reminds me of a point-and-click adventure where you need to interact with objects to progress, minus all the hard stuff of figuring out which item is used for what object. Well, there are still some puzzles and the gameplay is similar…

Pretty nice short point and click adventure. Looks beautiful, cool different locations to explore. Has some JRPG-styled combat, it's pretty simple, but it works. Overall a good game. If it looks interesting - I encourage to try.

On the artistic side it made me think of Disco Elysium ; the music and overall mood are very good. I really like the choice of books/stories they decided to tell. I didn't understand everything about the world of the game. I feel like we only scraped the surface of what this world has to offer, like a premise to something bigger. But they couldn't fit everything in the game because of limited budget/time/people. Gameplay is very basic and everything is on rails but it's short, smooth and enjoyable, just don't expect anything more. Sometimes you have choices but I don't think they impact the story that much. Congrats to the team and I hope you create more games inside this world so I get to dive back into it.

Neat little indie game that's full of charm and humor. Its very premise is a cool concept fit for a movie! Never outstays its welcome either

A sweet point and click adventure with gorgeous isometric environments. It's an improvement from their previous title "The Final Station" which you should also check out. I got attached to the characters especially the protagonist and his sidekick, there's are cool reveals too in the story. The jokes for me hit me in the right place and gave me a good chuckle here and there. All in all, I recommend this game!

The Bookwalker has a really interesting premise that I enjoyed - 'diving' into books and entering its world, with the goal of stealing an item from it to pay off your sentence for a previous crime you comitted that you later discover. I thought each of the unique worlds were interesting and distinct, with small rewards for exploring and crafting tools within the worlds (that don't carry over from books). Even better, you can 'leave' the book anytime to get items from the real world. If anything I wish the devs played with this a bit more, since usually you just leave to collect one tool. There's some mystery and intrigue with another 'writer' that is evicted in an appartment below yours, what if you had to dive into one of their books and learn something that you could then use in their appartment, like a code or a solution to a puzzle, or a hint about a secret compartment? Just a thought. Another thing I would've liked to see a bit more is more work on the dialogue and options. You start as a desperate person wanting to get their shackles off so you can get back to writing, but after meeting your partner you suddenly become convinced that all fictional characters are meant to …
