ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove!

As an animator of hybrid 2D and 3D art, Toejam and Earl satisfies that itch for light hearted humor and adventure. Play it with friends or alone. The devs did a great job capturing the spirit of the original, while updating the gameplay and visuals to satisfy today's gaming. An inspiration and a loyal addition to the series!

Delightful! First time getting to Funkatron really brought me back to 4th grade when I did it with my buddy way back when.

If you loved the original, you'll probably love this. You can set different skill levels per-player, so it's great for playing with someone new to the game (or video games in general). The core gameplay loop is simple enough for my 4 year old to pick it up. Runs on modest hardware.

Oh well, time hasn't treated this classic well. You get some nostalgia but that's it.

The gameplay gets old pretty quickly. Each level requires you to enter the elevator for the next floor -- sometimes you'll need to collect a spaceship part before doing so, but there was never anything dramatic about it. The enemies' only means of hurting is often to chase you, so while a lot of enemies look different, almost all of them act the same. Throughout these runs, you can grab power-ups, but unlike other roguelikes/lites, they only last about a minute.
