Great 2D-3D remake! If you've never played Sea of Stars, it's like Secret of Mana playstyle mixed with Final Fantasy mechanics depth. I put this on the back burner for a while because so many 2D-3D games disappoint, but when I started to play it I had to finish. A decent JRPG with an interesting story and world, but held back by an unenjoyable combat system, poorly explained mechanics, and too much "menu fighting." On the positive side, the overarching story and the world-building are genuinely interesting. While the narrative isn't overly complex and follows a fairly "standard" JRPG formula, it works well and remains an engaging backdrop for the adventure. What really elevates the narrative are the characters. The cast is cool, and their interactions with one another add a lot of charm and life to the overall experience. The soundtrack is alright and fits the game adequately, though unfortunately, no specific track really stuck with me after finishing the game. Where the game begins to frustrate, however, is in its onboarding and progression systems. The game's most important mechanics are thrown at you all at once at the very beginning. This massive information dump makes it extremely overwhelming to try and keep everything in mind as you play. A prime example of this is the IC system. It feels overwhelming to navigate, and I found myself spending far too much time tinkering with it for my taste, which contributed heavily to the te…
